Since I wasn't able to find it, I'm sort of shooting from the hip here. Is this route going past the abandoned prison?

We tried to enter at 116 and Gum Branch, we came out of Windrock trail G6. I don’t know the area that well and not sure how else to get back there. The whole lot had been bar’d off with printed no trespassing signs.

I imagine most the trails in the area are open since it’s April. Nemo was accessible when we were up there, but we were mostly exploring Windrock.

I was looking in the red area, but sounds like it might be more in the blue area.

I’ll be sure to post the current state of access. It seems like the vandalism is quite high with all the reported graffiti in the area. Wouldn’t blame the owner for saying enough is enough.

Exploring this piece of land that's for sale. Now I have to find a way to afford it. Anyone need a kidney?

Sad news but the abandoned rail car has been made inaccessible. A local said it was due to vandalism and operations at the coal wash site. Railroad beam blocking the enterance.03C39184-CD24-4AE0-8359-EFAD07777768.jpg

Very cool! I have a few questions if you don't mind.

How does that ride with the tent on top of the shell?
Does the shell have any trouble supporting the tent driving around/when y'all sleep in it?

The ARE shell has never had any issues with the weight and we’ve been all over the country. We purchased it through Custom Camper in Lake City. The truck is a little top heavy and we carry a lot of weight fully loaded, but that’s never stopped us from hill climbs or off camber trails! Highway mileage sucks and the CVT is a massive brick in the wind. We do, however, have a new iKamper 3.0 hardshell on order :)

I'd be interested in hearing about the mpg change after going to the hardshell.

Should be a little slimmer and much more aerodynamic. Hopefully a mpg improvement, but we’re switching to make camp setup/tear-down faster. I’ll report back in June!

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Camped out last night on the ridge. Was about 6000’ elevation. Woke up and felt like my lips were frozen.

Wow. Nice man. I once woke up in a mummy sleeping bag and apparently the top was touching my tent. Condensation had frozen and when I tried to move I was stuck to the side of the tent. I freaked out at first when I could move my head until I figured out what happened

That reminds me of when I camped in a creek bed late one eve. I woke up to being washed away!

    Ha!

Sounds like the time we went camping in the Ozarks. It was supposed to be in the 40s-50s at night. We woke up and it was 28. Had rained overnight and our stuff was frozen. None of that was predicted.

That was not the best time to find out that the tent leaked. My sleeping bag was frozen at one end.

I had some cool information this morning and thought I'd share. 864-868-0281 is the number to the office of the Jocasssee Gorges that maintains the horse pasture rd area. The gates will close on May 10th this year. So if you wanna go do it soon.

Going to do part of the GA Traverse May 13th-15th if anyone is interested. Game plan is to start in Cherry Log after work that Friday and head East.
