I had a K&N air filter on my Dodge Cummins for 15 years, never had a single issue with it. I put an aFe (same type as K&N) in the stock air box on my Tacoma about 4 years ago, no issues at all.

A guy at werk was tellin me about Chevy dealerchips.. selling incomplete vehicles, just to get cars and trucks on the lots.. due to lack of dem dair chips .
