I really like the idea of the dummy OBD2 port with a charge that would disable any scanner that were to be plugged into it. I would 100% pay for that. @daveeasa

    Oh look, another mod....
You'd pass because one guy doesn't agree with the price? If that's how you make decisions, I'm surprised you've ever bought anything ever in life....especially your truck.

I see liability on that one. Dealer would not be happy.

I’ll try to find the conversion I’ve had with an expert. I think your best bet is one or more starter kills. One for fuel pump, one for starter relay?

But an old school club might be enough hassle to deter. And as has been mentioned, a determined thief only has to get lucky once, whereas you have a high bar of needing to block 100% to retain ownership.

Insurance is really the only guarantee. I’ve had several breakins in my life. It’s not like finding a trashed vehicle you spent hours customizing is particularly fun.

Normally I would not buy anything off Amazon or online with only one review negative or positive. It's not very a good indication of how good a product is or how satisfied you will be with it when you can't see it before you have to pay for it. Maybe it's well made and worth that, Maybe it isn't but I wouldn't pay almost $200 to find out.
Buying a vehicle is a little different that's not something that you usually don't see and experience an example of before purchasing. I test drove several trucks.
Nice comment though, I see how you make purchasing decisions.

Well thats easy enough to build. There are plans all over to make "electric shockers", just make one of those, wire it into the fake obd port and enjoy. Just make sure you tell the shop that works on your truck each and every time and put a notice inside the truck so the mechanic doesnt cook their tool trying to scan your truck.

Toggle switch to kill the fuel pump would be a better alternative

I would agree. They wouldn't expect that.
Also the club type thing seems like a good way to maybe slow them down and possibly consider another vehicle. Just another thing they have to deal with to be able to drive off. More time it takes the more chances of being seen in the act they don't like.

Interesting... So, reverse wire a USB socket to a dummy OBD port?

I think the easiest way would be to use a capacitor that just discharges a ton of current into what ever is plugged into it.

@caribe makaira By any chance, you ever helped anyone achieve this? Any sensitive electronics that might throw a code if the switch is flipped back on?

Perhaps something like a latching valve in the fuel system would be better. No need to mess with OEM wires, you just put the valve in a fuel line. When there is no power, no fuel will flow, when power is applied to the valve it opens and allows fuel to the engine. The person would be able to start the truck and drive a few feet before it pretty much runs out of gas and stalls.

All this talk about a kill switch. I remembered my 87 Honda Prelude had a starter kill switch that a previous owner must have installed under the dash. I had the car for months before I found it and had to figure out what it did.
Not sure with modern electronics in cars if something like that could be done.
