Just wondering, how many around here got the extra 5 year warranty [10 years total]? I am getting the option to get 10 years bumper to bumper for around $2500 extra and debating if it will be worth it. Thank you

I got it on my 22. I tend to keep my vehicles for 10 years so it was worth it to me for the piece of mind with all the tech in my truck.

It's only worth it if used. $2500 can pay for a lot of maintenance not covered by warranty.

I have a 7yr/100,000 mile warranty that I got for free. 5 years later I haven't used it.

    Oh look, another mod....
If you do want to purchase an extended warranty, remember that the price can be negotiated, just like the purchase price for the car.

Extended warranties may reduce financial stress, particularly for those who own models from unreliable brands. They’re available through dealerships, auto clubs, and insurance companies (which sometimes call them mechanical breakdown insurance). The plans can vary in length of time, what they cover, and price. And the small print truly matters, because aftermarket programs have specific limitations on what repairs are covered and where the work can be done.

I got a 8 year/100k Platinum 0 deductible Toyota warranty for less than half that price. Call Troy Dietrich at F-D warranty or Jen Taylor @ Lexus of Ann Arbor, Mi

I’d pass. Spend the money you would pay on it to do the required maintenance.
You have to do the maintenance to keep the warranty anyways.

My findings are that with a Tacoma, the things that are covered under warranty usually break with in the factory warranty period. Or after 10-12 years.

At the rate of current inflation, $2500 in 10 years will be about $3. So, no. Not worth it. Seriously, I doubt you will use it fully unless you completely ignore the maintenance and beat on your truck.

I have never bought any kind of warranty on either mine or my wife’s cars over 40 years of buying automobiles. Of course we have only bought Hondas and Toyotas. With the money saved we could have bought a new vehicle.

I wish I had that deal. I have issues going unfixed that would be more than 2500 to fix. Will be getting one next time.

I got the Platinum Extended Warranty. It was just under $2K and I rolled it into my loan.

I'm 60 years old. Never bought one and never regretted it. I've never had a major issue occur in any car I purchased new and I usually keep cars for about 6 to 8 years with around 100K miles.

I think it comes down to this:

Either keep that money in a not to be used growth account, and then throw one hell of a party on your truck's 10th birthday. And if you happen to need some coin for a post warranty repair, there is money there to help cover it.

Or you can give it to Toyota, and then in a weird kinda way secretly hope something breaks after the factory warranty expires. And here's the fun part, if something does break, find out your issue isn't really is covered by the extended warranty after all.

    Hmmmmm???

0 deductible?! That's crazy, what does it actually cover system/part wise?

    Man, you suck! lol

Last new vehicle I bought with extended warranty was my wife's 2017 Elantra...and before that, 2003 Honda Pilot. I had recalls on the Pilot and they were taken care of...the Elantra had no recalls.

I guess I filed and forgot it because I did not have to use it. Piece of mind is all it got me.

Thanks for the seed you planted...next new vehicle I won't and it will take a dump! lol

    Naw...I'm just kidding.

If you can get one for less then $1200 it’s worth it since one major part repair will cover the cost. As others said the price is negotiable picked mine up for less then $500 7/100,000.

I would buy it at the end of factory warranty. No need for 2 warranties at once. Lots of things can change in life. 5 years is a long time. Who knows if you will have this truck then.

I don't agree or disagree with you getting the extended warranty, however...financing is a bad move You're going to pay interest on that warranty now. It won't be under $2k now, it will be close to $2500 or more after you add in finance charges. It's like rolling the TT&L into your auto loan. You'll pay taxes on taxes!

I didn’t get any on my 2017. It went to the dealer go then two free oil changes and that’s it in 5 years and 123,000 miles

I got a 1.8% loan from USAA. Total interest for my $35K loan looking at the amortization is just over $1761. If I go 60 months to pay it off, I'll be charged $36,761 overall.

I'm ok with that. If I want to pay it off within 3 years, the interest charge will be less.
