I had the same problem losing the 10mm socket. Pull the light back off and it will be sitting on a metal "shelf" directly behind the light. Also, I can confirm this light is not waterproof. You'll need silicone at minimum maybe the tsb gasket too.

Alright doll-face, c'mon and bore me!
Do we know what type of sealer (silicone or otherwise) is safe for use on automotive paint?

Taco looks awesome either way! Trying to do a similar build as my back will allow (many nights sleeping on the couch). Worth it in the long run, she’ll get over it when I’m done and have more vacation dough! :D

    That's the conundrum.

I know Toyota uses 3M Marine 4000UV adhesive sealant, but others have used regular bathroom silicone (black or clear) found at HD or Lowes. I suppose you could try permatex gasket maker and only put it behind the light opening and bolt holes and then follow up with silicone around the outside edge of the light itself.

I'm not sure which is which, but these are the tsb parts needed
    00948-chmsl
    00948-chmsl-hw

Funny enough, Fred Haus Toyota was selling them on Walmart this afternoon. Ordered both as no dealer would sell me the parts. I'll hit up Toyota for a refund after it's done and see what they say. :notsure:

I'm pretty certain that the socket fell down the passenger side column. I had to drive to Home Depot to get another 10mm socket, and when I turned I heard it slide to the side. When I got back from HD I tried to fish it out (after I removed the light) and I heard it drop down the passenger side column.

That sucks that it's not waterproof. Thanks for the heads up.

It was killing me having the woofer dial all crudely stuck to the bottom of the dash with tape like the shop did it. Remove a blank, roto-zip, old grommet and zone out to your tunes!

You might try gently popping that side column off and using a magnetic retrieval tool. I actually started to pull my entire headliner down until I realized I could just remove the light and grab the socket. Don't do that. :rofl:I had to pick up some plastic retainer pins at the dealer this afternoon so I could put the truck back together. Royal pain in the butt. :annoyed:

edit: I'm just going to do silicone around the outside and use the tsb trim ring on top. It's not worth pulling the light again.

I have a 2yr old BlackVue 750 F+R that I removed from my old Tacoma sitting in a box but I really liked the plug and play aspect of the Fitcamx. Its 4k front and 1080 rear which is better than my BlackVue so Im hoping for the best. I saw a few demos for Tacomas on YouTube , as well as for other vehicles demonstrating the features and app. I plan to take a few pics of the install and will give my opinion when I get it. If it sucks its going back, and Ill stick with the BlackVue.

I'm definitely not touching the 3rd brake light again. Pissed me off too much. Where did you get the TSB trim ring? I've been searching for the past 10 minutes and can't find it. Do you have a part number or link?

Did my first break in oil change. Used Mobil 1 0-20 and Toyota filter. I also installed the aluminum filter housing. One thing I will get is a valve for the oil drain. It came out so fast it splashed and made a little mess. Otherwise the filter housing drain I bought worked great and the filter removal tool work great also. Nothing was super tight and came off easy enough.
    1013 miles on the OD.

also the oil dip stick sucks ass.
