Do you find the Gen3 Tacoma interior a bit small/crowded?

Probably should get a bigger truck or van, yeah vans are dorky, but easy to live with. Would even go check out Transits or Sprinters. Those two with massive windscreens feel very open, swallows kids and gear like nothing and ride quite nice.

Yeah Metris too if you don’t need anything big as the Sprinter, even the Ford Transit Connect, wife’s sister has one (family of 4) they love it.

Transit Connect interior, sliding doors make life easier.

 How the hell did we go from Tacoma small, maybe time to get a Tundra; to get a van?

    Maybe it was planned? lol

    Who am I kidding?

The decision to buy a vehicle to then realize it was not sufficient could be taken as remorse--discussing that decision could also be therapy.

I enjoy these kinds of threads because of the tangents it takes. Not judging...because we are all entitled to our opinion.

    Well stated.
... and not to mention current prices these days. So glad we bought our "new" vehicles in 2019 before the world went beserk.

2021 was a great year for my wife and I.

Became credit card debt-free in Jan which allowed us to take advantage of Superior FICO scores!

First, we refinanced our mortgage...for the second time since 2006. It took lots of information gathering, printing documents, and making appointments/phone calls/emails & paying for an appraisal.

Once the dust settled and we had a tremendous amount of equity, it allowed us to do a total remodel of our kitchen & rip out all of the contractor grade carpet in the house for wood floors.

Then in early May 2021, I got wife approval to buy my truck!

Initially, I was looking at a Tundra...but my wife persuaded me against it. I could have bought a Tacoma TRD Pro with my loan limit but I gave myself a $40K threshold.

My FICO score generated a great interest rate from USAA. Keeping the TRD Sport under $40K was a great decision and I felt comfortable with the monthly payments.

I'm enjoying my Sport and adding some upgrades that haven't quite reached $5K total.

Our daughters are both married and have their own cars so my DCSB is primarily transportation for my wife and I with groceries going in the back seat. I've used my short bed to transport furniture to our storage unit as well as bulk items from Lowe's needed for our yard. I've also towed an electric stove to the local Habitat for Humanity using my Harbor Freight trailer.

I'm retired from 25 years of Active Duty Military Service but still working to fund our retirement portfolio and saving emergency money as well as our daughters Christmas Fund.

I find that if my wife is not worried about financial hardship, she is a nicer person to be around. lol

See how I just rambled? There's a lot on everyone's mind these days. Being happy to share experiences does wonders for me so thanks for reading through my journal. lol

    Thank You!

It was the best decision for me at 18/19 years of age and living/growing up in SoCal/LA.

    Plus, the experiences are priceless.

Living on the opposite coast now and loving it!

Two best decisions of my life are the Air Force and my wife. Truly thankful for both.

Well, well...fellow USAF compadre! Thank you for your service too!

I met my Scottish wife on my first overseas duty station: RAF Wethersfield on Feb 4, 1989...which also happens to be my mothers birthday.

We married in March 1990 and had 2 girls born 1990 & 1994. Having a family is wonderful...it's also a bonus when your adult kids spend their weekends at their parents house--we love it!

But back to this thread topic. I don't believe a Tacoma DCSB or DCLB would have been comparable to the SUV that our kids grew up in.

The decision to get the Honda Pilot was unanimous in our family...yes, our kids had a vote between the Odyssey & the Pilot when we were stationed at Hickam, HI in 2002. I was the only one who voted for the van! lol

I’m right there with you on this. Tacoma has been fine for us, wife has a 2021 RAV4 which has suprisingly good space for the kids. But there might be talk of a third kid coming soon well.. still in discussion. Wife said let’s go for the Tundra if that happens. Otherwise we will sac the RAV4 and get a legit SUV… I have been eyeballing the Tundra, I just am not a big fan of full size trucks…

I used to operate heavy equipment for a living, Tacoma’s really aren’t trucks to me. So there is that… lol!

Guys acting tough in their Tacomas I find hilarious. It is basically a car with an open air trunk, that is under powered, can’t haul or tow much of anything, and gets shitty gas mileage. It does nothing well. lol!

Shoooot, my dirt bike buddies in their 1 tonners call my Tacoma a “chick truck”, I just laugh and tell them I am perfectly fine with my masculinity. How’s that viagra working out for ya!? lol!

Shiiiiiiit, we used to own a construction company, driving most styles of vehicles from commuter small diesel VW Rabbits, 1 Ton Pickups, Vans, to Tri-Axle Mack dumps. Started buying Toyota trucks for a daily because it was nice to jump in something small and nimble after operating heavy equipment all day long. Have been driving Toyota Trucks for the last 30 years now. Came time to buy a new one, looked at everything from Subarus, 1 Tons, to Sprinters. Settled on another Tacoma since it was in the lower middle of all those, it is a compromise vehicle that doesn’t do anything well. My ideal vehicle would be a Tacoma with a fully boxed frame chassis, 2000 lbs payload, with a van body for hauling dirt bikes and camping, but no one is making that combo.
