What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

I tried to get the damn mirror cap off today, do you have any tips?

 

Lol.. was popular in the 80’s. They destroyed a lot I’m sure… but it was a fun show.

 

Work it back and forth easy and learn to be okay with a broken clip or too. It was a serious PITA. Just pry your way around easy. I don’t have much in the way of tips other than lower your expectations I guess! I broke tabs on both of mine but I had ordered a brand new driver side paint matched cover so I wasn’t super bent up over it. Good luck!

 

Yeah, just think of all the square body fans that are watching that show cringing at how many trucks they destroyed. Kinda like Duke‘s of Hazard did with Chargers

 

If you look behind the mirror, you can see the tabs that hold the cap on. Use a trim tool or pick tool or screwdriver to push the tabs through while pulling gently from the outside. I found it easiest to start from the inner edge closest to the door glass because it wants to pivot on the outer edge at the turn signal lens.

 

Got them off, had to use more force than I thought. Only broke one clip! Lol

 

Okay, so. Tried installing the sequential blinkers I bought from Amazon, the left side came defective, one of the metal connector pins was pushed down into the plastic connector, couldn't fix it myself so hopefully the seller can help me out. Got the right side in though and it's a pretty cool upgrade for an 08... plenty bright and works smooth. Taking the mirror caps off wasn't as bad as I thought either.

 

@MESO v2 dual color map lights. These things are BRIGHT. Red lights for me are ideal to keep night vision for hunting and outdoor things like that. I should have done these sooner.

 

Put a bigger tire on my base model Access Cab.
235/75/R15 instead of the stock 215/70/R15. It's not much but it fills the wheel space better and effectively lifts the truck about an inch. Probably the biggest you can go without a lift kit or black box mod on the 5 lug.

 

Nice! My next mod (if I ever get around to it) is to add puddle lights to the mirrors. All the stuff is sitting in a box somewhere.

Appreciate the feedback and tips. Not sure when I’ll get around to installing this since I have half of the house torn apart, but this is towards the top of my list for the truck.

 

I really wish I did the heated 4runner mirrors with the puddle lights, that would have been too much work for me haha

 

Really want to do this mod! Does anyone know if the 2014 sr5s are pre wired for this? Or do you have to run wire and tap into the turn signals?

 

Nope, 2012-2015s are pre wired for the signal mirrors. I had to run wires and do all the tapping to do the turn signal mirrors on my truck

 

Nice! Thanks. So just gotta buy the signals and caps with the cutout? Or are people cutting there oem caps to fit the signals they buy?
