I'm in agreement..though with the stupid weather nowadays plus that being a quirk of vehicles, one never knows

Just tested out the cruise control today and it works; Turning on the wipers did not disable it...

Good to at least rule in/out the easy stuff.

Different thing but my old snowblower wouldn't start one day. I was not thrilled and brought it to the shop. Guy had it running in 5 seconds. My dumb ass didn't know/look for the fuel line shutoff.

Reminds of the time I was driving my friend's 2004 Tacoma; I was at a traffic light and it kept stalling as soon as I would hit the gas. Turns out that I had it in third gear...

Sometimes the brake switch needs adjusted. Hits a bump and that will disconnect CC. On standard the clutch disengage switch would do the same

Originally part of a thread called 2.7L misfire still persists!...

The first time this issue really manifested itself, it was the #1 ignition coil, which was literally burnt; My mechanic replaced two of the ingition coils (his supplier only had two) and the CEL came back on a day later. I should have know there was still an issue because the CEL had to be forced to go out by my mechanic using his diagnostic scanner. When he replaced the other two the following Monday, the CEL went out on its own.

Three days later, on Thursday, the CEL came on again and it was cylinder #1 again but just a misfire; My mechanic made the CEL go out and it stayed out for entire weekend. The #1 injector was replaced exactly eight days ago (last Monday) and the truck ran a lot better but still seemed to misfire briefly on startup, especially when it was colder.

The CEL has not come on since the 7th or the 8th April, but just a short time ago I needed to back the truck up to the dumpster at work so I could dispose of a heavy item; When I started the truck, it misfired for over a minute before calming down. There is still a slight rough idle, but no CEL or any warning lights as of yet. Temperature gauge is normal, oil level is normal, and the engine sounds quite normal for a 4-cylinder with over 148K miles; The engine just shakes the whole truck rather than making noise.

I personally think it just needs three more fuel injectors, but my mechanic wants me to leave it on Thursday night so he can start it up first thing Friday morning and see if he can replicate the engine shake I'm describing; He was unable to do this when I left it on Sunday night (April 10th), but replaced the injector because his scanner had previously shown a misfire on cylinder #1, a subsequent compression test came back normal, and the symptoms I was describing were consistent with an injector issue. I've known my mechanic for many years, and unlike the stealership, he doesn't charge me money for hooking his scanner up to the truck or time spent diagnosing problems.

    IMPORTANT INFO:

    • As stated above, a compression test came back totally normal.
    • All four ignition coils and #1 injector have been replaced.
    • The sparkplugs were replaced in October 2021 and have only a little over 8K miles on them.
    • A check of the sparkplugs by my mechanic last week showed no signs of oil where it shouldn't be.
    • The CEL is not presently on, but the last code my truck threw was for a misfire on cylinder #1.

I wouldn't hazard a guess, though you may be right re the injectors. Hopefully your mechanic can find & fix it.

And on another note, my truck had the frame replaced by the dealer under recall the week before Thanksgiving last year; The engine was removed from the truck, obviously, but the only item on the engine that was itself replaced was the water pump. Literally nothing else was touched. The alternator failed in a spectacular fashion in mid-December 2021, and was susbequently replaced.

Put the #1 spark plug in a different cylinder.
A visual inspection and fact they it is relatively new, doesn’t mean it is good.
    Plus, it’s simple and free.

Next would be taking a look at the misfire data on the scan tool.
See when it misfires, low rpm, high rpm, or both?

Have your mechanic check for cylinder compression. If it's not within spec, it might be a burnt valve.

    Good luck....

FWIW, I've seen brand new plugs with cracked or separated porcelain. Due to miss-handling or defect. Doesn't cost anything to check....:notsure:

Would that be a total engine rebuild or replacement if it is the case?
