Because we don’t already have gas powered vehicles with existing infrastructure?

Why are we switching over to electric?

Except to make the people who are profiting off of rare earth minerals richer.

Because regardless of political opinions the scientific facts are that pollution reduction through clean(er) energy production coupled with more efficient hybrid and electric vehicles is beneficial.

You’re right, we should just keep burning gas and oil until we’re out instead of changing to motors that need minimal lubrication and can be powered via renewables.

We should just keep lining the pockets of the devil we know.

Not a hard concept unless you want to be stubborn. There’s no free lunch, but there’s one that’s significantly cheaper in the long run.

The future is now old man, V8's are done for

Edit: if you have ever rode in a Tesla model p90 / p100 and felt that instant torque without all the mechanical shit that can break, you would understand why this is indeed the future. Enjoy those faked engine revving sounds played through the speakers like a BMW I8 lmao

You /can/ have both - cheap EV running costs in town and infrastructure for rapid fueling at long range.

Ran into a charger doing .49/kWh the other day. That's way more expensive than gas tbh.

See I don't need the speed in an EV, I want range and faster charging, which is coming. I liked the speed of the P85 when I had it but I'd give up a faster car for longer range. The Lucid so far has both but is $150k

    https://year2049.substack.com/p/fusion-power-?s=w

Commonwealth Fusion, a spin-off from MIT’s Plasma Science and Fusion Center, is also building a fusion device called SPARC which is set to launch in 2025. CFS has raised a total of $2.2 billion from investors including Breakthrough Energy Ventures, which is funded by the likes of Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos.

Major achievement: The company has developed a novel superconducting magnet to create a stronger magnetic field in its reactor. In September 2021, the company broke a record by achieving a field of strength of 20 tesla (MIT). This is stronger than ITER’s 13-tesla magnetic field.

Harnessing fusion power would be one of the most monumental achievements in the history of civilization. While there are still challenges to overcome, scientists have made progress in bringing fusion power closer to the world.

Our commitment to ethical conduct means doing the right thing every time, all the time, even when no one is watching. Doing the right thing is even embodied in our name: Karma.

We know that now, more than ever, investors are demanding more from the businesses in which they invest, and customers are expecting more from the brands they support. I am excited about the important Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) work that the Karma team continues to move forward in support of continued accelerated growth for the brand.

Speaking of Gates, they are currently building a molten-chloride fast reactor here in Idaho, our neighbors across the street from us are on one of the crews.

Doesn’t doing the “right thing” vary wildly depending on who you talk to? Some think for the sake of the environment we should go back to riding bicycles/walking…or go live in caves.

Was watching a documentary on a Chinese automotive glass company trying to to business in the States. One of the clips the owner was saying…while he is successful, but misses being a child on the farm listening to frogs chirp, wonders what we are doing now is such a good thing since most of the old farms have factories built upon them, and we are destroying the environment.
