I was going through 80s of C25 every month or two so I jumped up to a 390 and anchored it to the wall. Sucker hasn’t moved in almost two years, it’s still going strong. :muscleflexing: Costs me $100 a year to lease the tank and $120 per fill.

Yep. They be heavy alright. Part of the reason I have them now instead of dad, they just got to heavy for him to handle as he got older

I remember a few pages back where we were all talking tank sizes and how long they’d last. I few people figured out they were running higher cfm’s and that accounted for a lot of the shorter cycles. It’s been windy here lately and a pain to weld so I’m running about 18cfm but even then I have to weld between breezes which slows me down on larger jobs.

Funny story about that, I didn’t realize that CFH and LPM were on the same dial and I was looking at the wrong number. Turns out I was running like 40 CFH

I run about 5-8 psi flow welding inside.

I gave up using the manometer type flow gauge years ago. I just thought they were not useful and wasted gas.

You know when your weld cover gas is dialed in by the sound.

I don't need a metal ball to tell me when things are right.

If your welding for a shop with prints, then the manometer gauge is required.

    Good conversation.

    That seems kinda high.

Too much gas is not gonna mess up the weld. You need to decrease it to the point you see porosity. It's all trial and error.

We all in this thread have the benefit of buying our own gas, so we know what we can get away with.

When the boss of your work says you need to run 20 cfm, you run 20 cfm. He buys the gas.

Us on our own dime are gonna squeeze that buffalo knuckle until it shits!

If we can dial the gas back and have the same results... We are going to dial it back!

    Another point.

I really think 2 tanks is an asset.

I've ran out of cover gas on a Saturday night. I was hoping to have the Job done by Sunday morning. No go.

Monday is the soonest you can get another can.

It sucks having the job stopped cold when consumables are gone.

2 small tanks is waaay better than one big tank.

With that said,. Transferring gas from one tank to another is easy.

Make a transfer hose out of hydraulic hose. You need a female fitting to hose to female fitting that mates up to both your tank threads.

You just crack the valves on both tanks until the gas starts transferring. It takes about 30 minutes. Now you have 2 tanks half full.

This is a useful trick if you have an undocumented can (no lease).

I normally run 10-12 in ideal conditions, but yeah your sweet spot might be different.

I had my Argon/CO 120cf filled about a month ago and it was $63.00. I still had my receipt from about 8 months ago and it was $59 then.

I haven’t had to refill it since I got it two years ago. I was blowing through gas when I bobbed my bed and built the rear bumper to match so I jumped up in tank size. My projects have slowed down since then which is why it’s lasted so long. I run about 15 CFH

Your cart looks nice. I made one but I still need to add a pull handle like yours. The welder is so light if I grab and pull by the handles on top of the welder, it starts to pull forward.
Guess I could add a stopper on the front. :anonymous:

@koditten do you use an xbox controller on you CNC table? Just wondering what mapper you used. I down loaded one and it worked fine first time I set it up. But, I went to open it to make a change. After I click to open, the controller works but I can't get the program to open where I can update the mapping.

Do you have one you are happy with?

    I can build 22, 5 x 10 utility trailers on a 120 cfm tank.

The tank is good sized and heavy AF.

I'll be honest, I'm pretty sure it's the biggest tank you can buy from your local welding supplier. I never gave much thought to the sizes.

Just give me a full one for my empty one. I don't want to think too hard. I just need jobs out the door.

I'm not committing the sizes to memory.

I tried the X box controller. It would not work with my windows 11 computer.

I ended up with getting this unit. I really like it. I think it works better than the xb controller. I'm not a gamer, so my opinion might be skewed.

    Thanks. I'm not gamer either.

I bought a $24 dollar Chinesium controller off Amazon. It works with my Win 10. Just need to find the right mapper. The controller is working now, but I can't change the original mapping I setup.

    It really is quite nice.

Plug in the USB wireless adapter into a USB port and it was working. You can move all your axis's right off the bat.

I still start my Gcode frome the computer, but I hold this unit in my hand with my finger on the stop button when the cutter is running.

If I get a "tip up" piece that will interfear with the tourch, I can hit stop really easy.

My opinion it's a very good investment.

I'm still learning it, but I expect there are lots more features that will apply.

Speaking of this. Mine is set at 19, when I pull the trigger it goes down to about 16. Is that normal? , I'm not sure I ever noticed it doing that? LOL
After reading, I'm lowering it to 15 and go from there.
