Same same it's been on my list for a while. Went down the shower tent rabbit hole a while back and this one always seems to win on the features/price balance. +1 to letting us know if it's as good as advertised.

That's what I'm here for, the mods and the gear.
Anyone in northwest Wisconsin know of a auto hobby shop/DIY repair type shop in the area? What about y'all in the south?

Applied for my GMRS license today. I'm not one to normally complain about government websites but that process is just a morass. Created an FRN, then submitted the application. Next I needed to create a login to tie the FRN to the account so I can pay the fee. Now the site is bogged down and won't let me log in/gives me time out errors. Damn it just take my money!
I wouldn't have thought that many people would be signing up for licenses today to bog it down but maybe.

You expected better from the FCC?

I also think that website hasn't been updated since the 90's.

I mean my expectations weren't exactly high. At first I wasn't sure if it just didn't like my safari browser or the problem was something else.

The price should've been reduced to $35 as well. I'll be getting mine after a trip next week.

You need to be licensed by the FCC to broadcast on GMRS or General Mobile Radio Service. It is in the 462/467 mhz band. People are trending to it over CB radio. More range, better audio quality. The licence doesn't require a test like amature radio (HAM). Just pay your fee and you and your family are licensed for 10 years.

General Mobile Radio Service. It's a more powerful radio band/frequency that requires permission (i.e. a license) from the Feds for use.

There are four radio bands/frequencies available to US citizens:

    1. Family Radio Service (FRS)...think walkie talkies
    2. Citizen Band (CB)
    3. General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS)
    4. Amateur Radio (also known as HAM)

These options scale in power, range, and capability. GMRS and HAM require a license, the latter also requiring a test.

Thanks. I used a CB way back in the 90's... Also think I had to get some form of license when I got my pilots license. I do so much solo stuff I haven't even considered a radio. Never considered that I might call somebody... I embrace the path of caution or walk.

    So. Many. Stickers.
The site has been down all day due to internal issues. There was a post about it on the book of face

    Apple is dumb.

Also GMRS broadcasting under 5 watts does not require license. The Chinese knockoff beofengs that everybody loves, actually only broadcast at about 4.2 watts or so.
