2010 taco cold weather issue

So here is the deal. I have noticed this problem when starting in cold weather (At or below 32 degrees). When I first start the truck it idles way down really rough and threatens to cut out. This last about 3-5 seconds and returns to normal. Is this ok for a new fuel injected engine? To me it starts like my old caborated jeep. Should I check this out or leave it alone? And yes I checked for water in fuel and refilled so that's not the issue. Thanks

how far down does it throttle down?????

 

My truck does just the opposite, as do most newer engines. On a cold start the engine runs higher RPMS than idle until it warms up or is put in gear. If your engine stumbles or misses and does not rev up after a cold start there may be something wrong. Have you checked the plugs? On a really cold morning mine takes a few extra cranks to start but runs strong once started.

 

Yes it idles low and rough than jumps up high which I know is normal, just when it first turns over thats the issue

 

Get checked something is out of spec.

 

Sounds like something is amiss, something with the fuel system... Most newer engines are able to account for the colder temperatures, and with you being in Mobile, you can't possibly be in such cold weather that it's making it do that.

Mine does the exact same thing. No worries about running high/low rpms much. Just usually takes more than one try. I was wondering about this since it only has 1000 miles on it so far.

its go a bad maf or something. I don't know how toyota enriches the mix, but it does, yours isn't.. or it is, without some other sensor/switch working properly. Mine was doing the opposite new, disconnected the battery and reconnected it before bothering to bring it to the dealer and it fixed it.

Pull your codes? take it to the dealer if warranted, or find someone that's efi smart. There don't seem to be many problems with the engine on these trucks, I never see anyone talking about it to refer you to.
Most people won't have a clue.

 

I recently learned that cars sometimes do have codes in them, but may not show the check engine light because the codes haven't "matured", i.e. the problem has to occur multiple times in a certain time span before the computer realizes something has failed. So you may have a developing problem with the MAF that just hasn't "matured" yet, perhaps.

 

It was about 3degree's F this morning when I started mine and all I noticed was a slightly harder crank. You should take to dealer. They will prob want to hold it overnight so they can start it in the morning.

 

Alright thanks for the answers! Might be a sensor sounds like the idle is having trouble compensating at first but then catches up. Keep going !

 

32 is a freaking heat wave from where I come from. -6 this morning and she started without a hitch and rpms never fluctuated. Something is not right with your truck.

 

-25 here yesterday morning and she cranked over pretty good, running the normal high rpm's for a few minutes. I would get it checked out, low rpm's shouldn't be happening at first start

 

I haven't noticed any problems with mine this winter. We have had some days down into the low 20's so far.
