Recently replaced front CV axles and after a few small test drives noticed a small diff leak from passenger side diff & cv axle. Had no clunking/ weird noises and other than alignment everything felt great. I think it's one of two things below but could use any opinions and suggestions.

Cause #1 Are axles sealed to the diff properly? Worried the non leaking side may not be inserted deep enough and the leaking side is inserted too far.

Picture 1 is the non-leaking side, but is not resting flush. Am I getting lucky here?

Picture 2 is the leaking side- did I insert too deep?

Cause #2 Diff seal leak- I listed as 2nd because I had a shop re-gear, install an arb air locker, install bushing upgrade and new seals. They said they didn't swap one (passenger side) because it was in good shape- I thought it looked fine as well. Could I have damaged the seal by driving axle too deep?

I am hoping I installed a little deep and if I pull out a little maybe it will seal better... would rather not have to remove and replace seal, but will do whatever is needed. Any info helps, first time doing this replacement and I thought I did pretty good until this

I’ve only done the driver side (needle bearing). There is some play which the new seal handles. Have you cleaned the leak up and still observed a leak? It may just be residual from the installation. Hope and wishfully thinking is not a fix, but watch it and it may “self heal”. However that’s the old seal side? It may be too old to flex to the new shaft.

Great question- I did clean up leak & it has slowed considerably from amount I first noticed... I am also hoping it settles & self heals. Not sure if you compared pictures, but do you think I installed passanger side too deep? Should I try backing out a little?

The further in you seat the seal the more likely it will leak. Flush or just ever so slightly past flush is good.

Dealing with my own OCD I’m not the one to be giving advice. However, it’s not causing problems. Give it a month and if it still bothers you have at it.
