Most vehicles of that time period (those in the Rust Belt) were in the scrap heap before 100k miles.

I remember some guy I knew had one of those and he said you had to let the car “cool” before shutting it off. So it sat parked and running often.

It amazes me that they're trying to sell it for 53k, no wonder it's still available.

There are some people that the Santa Cruz is perfect for and that's fine. Everybody lives their own life.

If someone that I knew pulled up to my house in that thing, I would probably start laughing hysterically and just leave... If I'd see someone that I didn't know driving that thing, I would probably just laugh to myself.

I agree. It has its place, as does the Ford Maverick. Not sure why people want to bash them. Depending on the need, perfectly reasonable for some people, and lets face it, both a heck of a lot more affordable.

I think it's ugly but for some reason Hyundai is very popular now with lots of new models and popular new tech in them. I don't think they are as sturdy as a Toyota or a Honda. They do seems to stand behind the product if pushed.. my brother got a new engine in his 2012 Sonota.

I'd still probably buy the Maverick because it looks better to me if those were my only options. However I'll stick with my Tacoma.

Waiting for the Genesis G35000 heay duty.

I have seen at least six different SantaCruz on the road if not more. I kind of expect to see 3 or 4 bikini clad 20 something young women to hop out of a Santa Cruz at the beach. Haven't seen that yet. So far it's usually a middle age man behind the wheel, I did see one woman driving a SC.

Definitely the same people who might buy a Tacoma, are buying the Hyundai.

Edit: doesn't Hyundai build ships? Do any other car manufacturers build ships?

What's funny about this whole thread is that we are all victims of the same comment from 1/2 ton+ owners and argue vehemently. I live in Texas and everytime someone sees my Tacoma, they say the same thing. Isn't it funny how bias plays a part in people saying stupid things?

I understand the differences more than most, but the point remains the same. The Sante Fe has it's purpose. It's a ute. Think El Camino.

But the Tacoma can be equipped to tow up to 6,800#. The Santa Cruz ain't out performing the Tacoma. Maximum available towing is the more important area!

It's funny how that always works no matter what you drive. Here in Alberta (Canadian Texas) people have a habit of buying the biggest, most powerful trucks and somehow thinks it makes them the coolest guy around. I don't care what people who don't pay my bills think about my truck. It suits my lifestyle perfectly and that is all that matters. The funniest part to me is that most with big huge trucks don't actually need them and are in denial. I couldn't imagine spending that kind of money just to show off!

I did that all the time with my Nissan Turbo Z, you let the turbo's spool down and cool before you cut the oil pressure to them. Made your turbos last a lot longer, bearings spinning at 10 K like a bit of oil pressure to keep them from coking up.

I agree. Honestly both the Maverick and Santa Cruz are ripe for an EV or plug-in hybrid model. I'm pretty sure I'm selling my Tacoma and going to hold off for something like this to come out in EV. I have a 3rd car so not pressured at all. Also getting a dual sport soon so have plenty of ways to get around, both on and off road.

Side not, yes I agree that neither of these are "real trucks" but I bet that Hyundai rides 3x smoother without all the vibrations and crap these damn Tacomas have.

If you aren't offroading or camping out of the back and just need a low cost utility type vehicle, there is nothing wrong with Maverick or Santa Cruz. Not much different then the basic Rangers in the early 90's before small trucks suddenly became mid-sized.

If I was just getting out of college, etc., I'd be all over the Maverick. Stupid affordable.

    Exactly....

If most people are honest here, the Tacoma is overkill for a lot of peoples needs. I tow with mine, camp with mine, and use it for mild off roading. It fits my needs perfectly...except for the small backseat for the chillins.
