Front bed header rail install.

I have a Snugtop shell installed and want to add the

I have not found good installation write up, so is it that easy?

Do I need to push the shell up?

It’s trivial. Order the rail. Your truck already has the screws. Might want to double check your part number.

I’m trying to remove the front rail out of my 6 foot bed. I destroyed one screw head. I guess it’s on there forever.

 

The factory guys are idiots. They definitely put the screws in too tight.

 

I typed it wrong.

 

Trivial to lift my shell or not?

 

I wouldn’t know if that is required. The rail install without the shell is easy.

 

Show us a picture of the cab end of your truck bed. If the end is covered then yes, you have to lift it.

If you can see the T30 screws, then no. All you do is remove the screws, place rail, replace screws. End caps to the rail would be nice but not included, not worth getting imo. Enjoy having more utility.

 

Actually it is the cheap fasteners Toyota uses. Take for instance most everyone that has put a Meso Gasshole on the inside of the gas door has swore the factory put the screw that holds the gas door clasp on in to tight. Actually it is the fact the threads are rusted in the female threads or the female threads are close to rusting and are corroded. I found this out when I went to take my Gasshole off and replace it with a gas cap cradle. I had to use a small pair of Vise-grips to get the screw out. the threads on the screw where it mated with the female threads was rusted. I replaced the screw with a stainless steel screw which I should never have to take out.

 

If you can remove all 5 existing bolts without a problem, you'll do fine without lifting the cap.
I have one for my '21 TRD waiting to be installed when work and the honey-do list stops getting in the way. I bought 316 stainless bolts & washers for mine. The washers are spacers for behind the rail because I anticipate tight clearance when using the OEM moveable tie-off brackets.

 

Shouldnt you have the same clearance as with the other rails with the oem fasteners? Its a 2 minute install

 

Excellent pertinent information! I do see the OEM hardware.

 

The torx screws are cheap and strip easily, so don't bang on them with that mega impact gun. While you have them out, hit the threads with some anti-seize.

 

Agree that it's a 2-5 minute install if all goes well.
I compared the side rail clearance (for the tie off brackets) from the bedside cap to the front. The front cap appeared to be closer to the rail. Won't know for sure until I get it installed.

Also these bolts are m6x1.0 10mm heads I believe.

 

You can put a front molle but I went with the rail too. I would say go for it. Takes two minutes. I loosen the nuts by hand then use my electric ratchet once I break em free. What are you gonna use it for? Mine holds my recovery boards which has been like almost zero space used up that way

 

I have ATH front bed corner brackets and a few accessories brackets to hold two rotorpax jugs and looking into traction boards to mount there (may not have enough room).
