A lot of the other guys in the S/C thread use Blackstone. I plan to do the same at some point.

The more I think about it and research it, Im doubting a fuel pressure issue. Its a mechanical pump on the block and has a hard line straight to the carb. Chances of a 40 year old mechanical pump that was never meant to have more than 7psi being higher than that are extremely low. Not discounting hooking up a gauge to check but it seems unlikely. I think the choke sticking or generally running too rich is the main culprit. Im going to try to adjust it again but its such a shitty carb it’s probably going to get ripped off. Theres a very reputable carb repair shop 2 miles from me and there are a few Quadrajets for sale on Craigslist pretty cheap. I might snag one and have it rebuilt professionally. That will at least buy me time to use the truck while I amass LS swap parts.

    I've had three K5s...an '84, an '86 M1009, and a '91.

The '84 was the only carbureted one, and it constantly would have stuck floats and/or needle valves, making it run stupid rich when warm. The fix for mine was a replacement Quadrajunk...

Side note: Should've never sold the '91...last of the square bodies!

My LS came with the car!

Ah yea I was thinking maybe you had a electronic fuel
Pump swapped already for the LSx. Yea mechanical fuel pump straight to carb. And it’s a Quadrajet? They’re shit. I’d see if you can find a cheap Holley to replace it. So you can actually drive it.

    Nice

Yeah I mistakenly said I replaced the in tank pump earlier but I meant sending unit. The current carb isnt a quadrajet its some chinese crap that someone slapped on prior to my original ownership and unfortunately its still there. Its hilarious to read peoples opinions about carbs. Most people actually like quadrajets and there is a lot more info about them out there than anything aftermarket.

Ha, I do keep an extinguisher in my trucks thankfully but yeah. Which Holley do you think? Im seeing recommendations from 600- to 750 cfms. Its a bone stock 350.

This is actually quite entertaining. When I google anything about truck or offroad carbs for a 350, 9 out of 10 people say the quadrajet is the best. You get a couple stragglers that say Holley/Edelbrock but literally everyone says just run a quadrajet. Im going to call some carb shops (apparently there are quite a few in the valley that all have great reviews) tomorrow morning and see what happens.

Ha, that reminds of Smyth pickup conversions. They are actually quite well done. https://www.smythkitcars.com

Quadrajets are great, but they take finesse to tune properly and can be a bitch to rebuild, which is why some people poo-poo them. If I were keeping a stock 350, I'd opt for a Holley Sniper setup.

ETA: A 600-650 cfm carb is plenty for stock
