So oiling and sewing up my 54 year old glove..
Grandson made the team so every time he comes over, we toss..
Glove is so stiff I couldn’t catch anything last week. this week was 100% better.
Another round of oil and I should be diving for grounders.

I think my old mitt is a Spalding Lou Whitaker edition (Tigers) from the 70s. I think the last time I played on a school team was in 1977. 20 years later I used that same mitt for 12 consecutive years of co-ed softball. I'm pretty sure it's dead and buried somewhere in a box out in the garage. :(

Sign of the times.... just found out I'm getting laid off after 17 years with the company. They need me to stay for a couple of months and try to liquidate some of our old inventory as well as complete a bunch of open POs we have for customers. I asked them to just lay me off and let's be done. I was told to my face that if I don't stay and help them they will consider it a "quit" and will contest my collecting unemployment. I'm sorry but that's just a load of crap (and a form of blackmail). Now I think I need better soles on my boots because they pulled the rug out from under me before I even knew what was happening.

Rumors are that the owner's wife has now taken control of the Toyota store. She is on a cost-cutting bender now. I expected to retire from here within 5 years. This is slightly humiliating to have to look for a job again at 59yo. Have only been out of work once in the last 33 years when I was in between dealerships. I started in this business as a parts driver when I was 22yo. By the time I reached 24yo I had my first Toyota parts manager job. Life throws you a curve every now and then, but that fast ball at your head is the one to be wary of.

Sorry to hear that, I know job hunting is not a lot of fun. But I'd look at it as, thanks for the early warning. As unemployment probably will not pay as much as working the extra few months will. Though, I think I would put my search hat on and commence looking right away. With some luck, you'll find something quickly and you can be the one to end your time with them. I certainly would not wait for them to set the date of your final day at work there.

Sorry to hear this. Are they abolishing your job? If you have a management position, didn't they offer any type of severance package? If you so desire i would inquire with a lawyer about age discrimination. Good luck
