They need me to stay for a couple of months and try to liquidate some of our old inventory as well as complete a bunch of open POs we have for customers. Rumors are that the owner's wife has now taken control of the Toyota store. She is on a cost-cutting bender now. I expected to retire from here within 5 years. This is slightly humiliating to have to look for a job again at 59yo. Have only been out of work once in the last 33 years when I was in between dealerships. I started in this business as a parts driver when I was 22yo. By the time I reached 24yo I had my first Toyota parts manager job. Life throws you a curve every now and then, but that fast ball at your head is the one to be wary of.

within 20 minutes my boss, another coworker and another coworker all message me asking whats going on and what to tell the customer. i dunno what to tell them - did anyone read my email from last week? go to the job site? contact a steel shop to see what lead times are? i passed that torch, moved on with my life, not my problem anymore. nope. no one read the email or did anything about it. but thats apparently my fault.
about an hour passes. coworker A sends a reply to my email saying they had a meeting about the project and yes, they agree that there is an issue that needs a solution. can i send some drawings to the steel people?
W - there are no drawings unless someone tells me what to draw.
*crickets*
an hour later coworker B messages me and asks the same.
W - same answer.
B - well you need to draw what the steel people need to build
W - which would be?????
*crickets*
fast forward to this afternoon. coworker A messages me again asking when i'll have the drawings done.
W - i dunno. about 30 minutes after someone tells me what i'm drawing
A - oh, well who would know that?
W - i dunno. someone who was in the meeting this morning about the design
A - oh, well we didn't talk about the design. just made sure that there was an issue
W - which we already knew. so no decisions were made?
A - no.
W - so there's nothing for me to draw
A - well you need to draw what the steel people need to build
W - which would be??????
*crickets*

in total about 50 messages back and forth and yet no progress has been made. now this was an issue that could have been handled a week ago at our leisure but is now a rush because no on acknowledged my email last week.

My son said when one of his employers were hiring a computer program developer, they were not allowed to ask if they actually knew how to write programs.... OMG how can you hire someone for a specific job, when you don't know if they actually know how to do it?!?! Sounds like your company just hired a warm body....

that's pretty much how it is. i know every time i ask my boss a question he gets that panicked, deer in headlights, look on his face. i'm not even in the same room as him and i can sense the panic when he realizes that he has no idea what i'm saying. and its not even hard stuff!
at some point every week i have to have a conversation that loosely resembles the "who's on first" skit. i know i'm saying things clearly but they're just not getting it.

The last thing you want is to assist them in any way. It’s like training your replacement to fire you. DO NOT GIVE THEM A TWO WEEK NOTICE. When you find a job just get your shit and get out. Do not say anything, don’t call them. Just don’t show up.

Good morning folks! I’m off to Charleston this morning to drop off a few shelter animals at another rescue. It’s funny Charleston is great but I couldn’t care less and can’t think of a thing I would like to do but if I was going to a hole in the wall town in the mountains I would be excited about it. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Wow, that's some serious buck passing. Yeah, 50 messages aren't near enough. Where I work, it takes a thousand emails to move a grain of sand.
