    fixed that fa ya!

Toyota trucks always had car engines. Even the new twin turbo engine in the Tundra is out of car.

This is a Celica engine bay.

Nope. I’m in 6th a lot cruising in town around 40 mph. I’m sure 4.30 rear end helps.

    Can take a video.

Some hesitation & hunting from a dead stop & a cold engine but at higher speeds my trans is just fine. 70 mph at 1600 rpm. That's as fast as I ever go. Yeah I'm old.

    Yessir! That was total sarcasm.

Folks complain all day long about our 'car' engine and want to plop another car engine in there. Makes me laugh.

Lol! Ahhh I am not much in a hurry these days. Would love to have that fuel economy. That and the HiLux chassis to get a 2000lbs+ payload for a camper and camping stuff…

Do believe the 4th Gen will get a turbo 4 gasser hybrid which should address the minor short comings of the 3rd.

Same here. The Taco gets going when I want to goof around, but usually, I'm just getting along in the right lane and enjoying the scenery.

Given the fat kid builds around here, I think the Taco is capable for a 2,000lb payload, if the nut behind the wheel can adapt to it. Overloaded with respect to the spec, but perfectly capable.

Yeah. I believe @Carmaker1 's take that it will be a 2.4T and most likely no more MT option? But, it will definitely get more scoot. The good part is that there is no rumble about drivability in the new Tundra. Power and shifting seem to be well received?

Majority of driving is 55 and under, and when I do road trips stick to the byways, so nothing more than 65. Would be nice to have a bit more lower end grunt for when it is loaded down, but it is what it is. Have been driving under powered Toyotas for 30 years now, used to it. It is a rocket ship compared to my old ones.

Yeah…think it is plenty capable of 2000 lbs payload, it is just marked low on the paperwork for safety, maybe warranty reasons, as the Tacoma and HiLux share a lot of the same components. Well except that boxed frame. Soon though…

IMO, I think it is possibly the weight distribution, brakes, and stock leafs. I would have to look closer at the HiLux, but that is just my guess. It is said that the HiLux rides very differently than the Tacos.

The answer to every "slow" toyota is: 2JZ swap with a big turbo.
Second and close option is the; hold my beer while I let freedom ring, big cam s/c LS crate motor swap.
