Turkey hunting and BS welcome!

My nephew got his first gobbler this morning
It was great to watch, everything unfolded perfectly

I may or may not shoot a bird this morning but there is 5 or 6 gobbling in the backyards in front of me and it is a beautiful of a morning as I have had this spring g

 

Also yesterday's Jake. He pulled the old switcheroo in the buck brush, I watched the Tom for 60 yards then he hit a small dip and showed up in the brush 30 yards all I could see was his head and it went from red to white so I knew he had made me and I shot. I never even knew there was a second bird to
till he flew after the shot. O well I'm sure he will eat just fine and I still have 2 tags.

 

The other good news is I'm not alone, already pulled 9 ticks off me.

Make some popcorn turkey nuggs

 

I brine, truss and smoke the breasts coating with honey every 30 minutes and the legs and thighs get the instapot deboned and made into turkey enchiladas

Turkey fever..... when I stop getting turkey fever I will stop hunting them been 30 years and my heart still beats out of my chest. Even just hearing a gobble within 100 yards gets me going.

 

Yeppers! We dont have a whole lot here that ive seen so id like to see more population before i start shooting any

lol. I always thought we should use them as elk calls out here in the west.

 

YEARS ago when I first started turkey hunting (early '80's) I was fall hunting with a buddy in central Pa. (near Altoona) when I saw a smaller buck out at about 100 yards. Started yelping and purring on my mouth call and brought him into about 30 yards. Took a pic with a film camera. Nice 6 point. Been carrying a mouth call or 2 ever since during deer hunts. Have calmed a few down and brought a few in a bit closer than they started out of curiosity.

 

A difficult 2 year old bird I pulled off private property. I bet he walked a solid half mile. One tag left and a week and a half of vacation left.
