    Damn Bill, sorry shit just keeps "hittin' the fan" for ya. :(

    Did the Yaris live its life somewhere out of state to get the corrosion? I know you guys get snow that brings the salt, but not that much? I know the Toyota Echo's have the same problem. Mechanicals will be fine, but that rear just rots out. Those really are non-existent.

    Come to think of it, I never see any Yaris of that vintage around here. Makes sense, PA and MD love their salt...

    Nope. Spent it's whole life in Central KY. It's a subpar design that seems to allow dirt and moisture to build up inside the trailing arms that eventually rots out the welds from the inside where the arm and beam come together.

    We get just enough winter, that over the course of 12 years with salt and brine took it's toll.

    I degreased and washed it down, inside and out and have applied the 1st coat of POR15 to all the welds and even down inside the arms as far as I could reach. Once the POR sets up I will flood the inside of the arms with Liquid Wrench rust inhibitor.

    @Tacoma Mike

    I was able to remove a bolt from a bracket next to the area where the arms attach to the unibody and flood the area with penetrant. Fingers crossed

    If it was me I’d be putting the air hammer on the bolt heads for about a min at low impact and use the impact gun with two or 3 light hammers tight, then loose. Just keep massaging the old girl

    Yeah true. I don't have an air hammer. But I'll smack it a bit first and hit it with the impact on low

    Considering the building boom that's been going on, every time we see a pickup visibly hauling lumber (if it's someone we know we tell them), "Hope you're hauling that directly to the job or to lock it up..."

    "New" beam is prepped. 2 coats of POR15 and trailing arms flooded with rust inhibitor.

    The party commences at 9am EST.
