Lol dude same here. Pisses me right off. Built a nice custom mount, wired it all through the bed, and this turd antenna might work just as good on a mag mount.

I will say I just talked to a guy on a repeater -70ish miles away and he said I sounded very good. That was with the bb4505cns on my

$110 db20g radioddity DB20-G GMRS mobile radio for car vehicle, 20W long range two way radio with cigarette lighter plug, 500 channels, VOX, display sync, for off road overlanding 4x4

honestly I like it a lot. I was skeptical about how good it could feel being a NA v6, but all around it feels much better.

Alright so did a little test today. Both the bb4505cns and the

$45 etrab4503 laird connectivity, inc. 450-470 phantom elite antenna, black

etrab4503 were far far better than the midland ghost. Between the two though it was really hard to tell a major difference with the test I was doing. Both hit the same repeaters at 30 miles and 65 miles. both worked about the same on simplex. Very close. I’d say maybe the bb4505cns was slightly better at longer range but hard to tell. Trying another test with a different buddy tomorrow. Keep y’all posted.

ETRAB4503 being less then 4 inches tall and 3db performing as well as a 31ish inch tall 5db antenna is a winner in my book!

 

Yep I agree man. Low profile, don’t have to worry about hitting my garage. I’ll report back after some more testing

Alright Tacoma bros. Last up update on this from me. Final testing this morning. Completely blind for the person on the other end as to which antenna was which. This was done with my 20 watt mobile to another 20 watt mobile both mounted in our trucks. We did 3 antennas. Midland ghost, laird

$45 etrab4503 laird connectivity, inc. 450-470 phantom elite antenna, black

etrab4503, and laird bb4505cns. We did simplex testing at 6 miles and at 10 miles. Also did testing off our local repeater about 35 miles away.

RESULTS:
Simplex - bb4505cns clear winner for both transmitting and receiving. Noticed a bigger difference on receiving simplex. The two other antennas were tied in performance. They work fine but the 4505 was a noticeable step up.
Repeaters - all 3 worked identical. No difference at 35 miles. Crystal clear transmitting and receiving.

so for me I’ll be returning everything and keeping the bb4505cns. Decent performance gain and I like the look of it as well. Hope this helps others narrow in. If you don’t want a big long 32”er then I’d go for the etrab4503 as a really good smaller cheaper option.

 

do you have any pics? Was going to have my buddy fab something up but if I can just buy something done and save him some time that may be best for all

 

I tried to make my own but my gap was too tight to fit anything between the bed and tailgate. For me it’d have to be narrower than 1/8”. I am running bed stiffeners though so maybe that is keep my gap tighter who knows

 

Thanks for all the testing results. We're these roof mounted or something else? I'm still trying to figure out the ground plane needs of various antenna. I think the 4505 doesn't need a ground plane but the 4503 will for best results. I think.

 

Just ordered the bb4505cn and hoping to mount it back about the taillight. Hoping to find the wouxun kg1000g instock soon.

Yep exactly right. 4503 needs a ground plane. 4505cns does not
