If you think what it says on your dashboard is accurate you should do a real check of your millage.
Fill up the gas tank & reset trip odometer. Drive at least 1/2 tank. Refill tank then divide number of miles driven by number of gallons needed to refill tank.

No, just normal driving. If I went over 100 mph the miles per gallon would become gallons per mile.

Resurrecting this thread only because I've been getting about 18 with my second gen V6/auto/4X4 access cab and thought I was doing pretty good.

But one of the tires looked a little low and checking all four they were all consistent but a little low compared to what I normally run. So I aired them all up... to 40 pounds on a whim. A little more than I normally run. The last two tanks of gas I've gotten almost 21 MPG. Of course I know that summer/winter gas... and tanks vary... and yada, yada... so just throwing it out there anyways. A little extra air in the tires.

It brings back memories of how it was so much easier to pedal a bike if the tires were aired up properly.

Signature is mostly city miles and hauling ass up and back down from denver to ski resorts. Idk how you guys get such bad gas mileage.

If I had no elevation and highway/city miles I'd easily hit 24+ mpg

I missed why this thread was resurrected. I believe door jam for stock tires says 33 psi (?), anyways if you're on stock tires 40psi is probably too high. Could easily cause uneven/excessive wear. I would either do a chalk test, or run no more than 36psi tbh.

How many of the poor MPG complaints are from people with all kinds of crap like RTTs bolted on or big/aggressive tread tires? I remember a guy complaining about poor MPG and he had a bed full of camping shit that weighed >500lbs bolted on.

I drive 40miles through the mountains (at 3-4K elevation) in a 4x4 for a commute and get 22-24mpg.

Yeah, I usually run 36 but got that number from the similar Taco I sold a couple of months ago. This Taco is a Baja Series and came with 265's recommended to be at 46# per the door sticker. I put 245's on after repair and had aired them up to 36 but over the last year they had all lost about 6. So actually 40 is less than recommended pressure but the tires are a different size. You might be right about a chalk test.

Still, the increase in mileage, 18 t0 21, is nice. Gotta wonder how that would pencil out comparing increased tire wear/decreased tire life against fuel savings.

Don't ever fill to "the top of the neck" -- it pushes liquid gasoline into the emissions canister and causes it to fail = $$. These modern vehicles are 1 click and done.

You have to wonder with some of these guys, they spend countless hours detailing their trucks to make them pretty, yet can't figure the right air pressure to put in their tires, or fill up their fuel tank right....blows your mind.

Are you in miles per imperial gallon or mile per us gallon? That should show some pretty sweet mpg.

I use L/100km myself anyway. The lower the better

    Check build thread!
A lot of guys who complain about MPGs also run 33s and floor it from every light. I get 21-22 in my slightly heavier than stock 21 TRDOR ACLB

If I get 18 on the highway I’m doing great. More like 16. Yeah 4x4, MT. Yeah bigger tires (E). Yeah some added weight. Yeah love acceleration.

    Yeah, that’s the compromise.
