I've got sag on option 1 now that I have a drawer system and hi-lift jack. Gotta be under 200lbs but more than 100lbs, I suspect. Very little rake that I can observe and I want to get some back.

I was planning to switch to option 2 but the recent chatter here is making me wonder if I should just go option 3. I will likely still have to diagnose light vibrations I have now with some trigonometry and axle shims even with a different option. Not too daunted by that. I don't plan to add much more weight to bed at this time, but I also don't want to have to take these off and apart more than I have to.

    Thoughts?

if you plan on keeping that weight in the rear. go option 2. i went option 3 because of the weight and i’m lifted about 2.75 inches in the front. the rear has a decent amount of rake.

I just had the RXT installed in option 2 and I'm sitting at 25" from center of hub to fender. So 3" over stock and 2" higher than my previous setup. Everything seemed smooth and had no vibrations at first, but because I'm paranoid about that, I had to do a few tests. When accelerating hard from a stop, I have a shudder. It's not something I notice when I take off normally, but if I step on it, the truck shudders until i hit about 15mph then it's smooth. I haven't noticed any other vibrations at any other speeds. Has anyone else experienced this?

I loaded the bed with about 300lb which barely brought it down .75 inches and did the test again. Shudder was still present, but only slightly. Going to have to find some more stuff to throw in the bed and see if the shudder disappears at or below 24" - option 1 might have been a better choice lol

wow that’s crazy. uhm i haven’t had any shudders or vibrations at all with this leaf pack. now being on option 3 i was hesitant about the vibrations, but i have none. even with option 2 i didn’t have any. are you sure they are properly installed?

Is your truck a long bed by any chance?

edit: nvm i see you have a short bed. you're lucky. i'm hoping i can get this resolved.

i know this is for 3rd gens, however i have been extremely happy with this leaf pack. rides amazing and holds a good amount of weight and even fully loaded it rode fantastic and went right back to the correct ride height after the weight was removed.

I got in touch with the shop that did the work. They were closed for the day and weekend, so they asked if I could double check the torque on the U-bolts. I got under the truck and the bolts were indeed not torqued to Icon's recommended 90ft-lb. Got those tightened and took it for a quick test drive. The issue appears to be resolved with no weight in the bed of the truck. I imagine the weight I had put on earlier was just helping the axle stay in place a bit more. I'll have to go through and double check every bolt now and do more test drives to be 100% certain.

I'm now officially paranoid about every little thing I feel.

sweet! glad you got it resolved. these trucks are very picky when things aren’t torqued to correct spec. had that deal with my LCA….

I'm glad I'm not the only one. Installed everything then took a 3 hr drive. Literally noticed nothing until I came to a stop from 25mph minutes from home. Felt a little vibrations, remembered that could be a thing with lifts, and from then on everything makes me wonder how much is road noise vs a vehicle vibration.

DCLB here (2nd gen) the shutter on takeoff is most likely the driveshaft being slightly out of line compared to stock and the carrier bearing is where the shutter sources from. This is super common on lifted tacomas so don't freak out you aren't alone. Some trucks its super bad, some its barely noticeable, and some never get it. Its completely different truck to truck.

The best way to fix this is single piece drive shaft, everyone who gets one reports the shutter is no more. For everyone who doesn't want a new single piece driveshaft the best option is to get an angle finder and measure the two halves of the driveline and try to align them a little better post lift. This is where carrier bearing drops and axle shims are talked about the most. I was lucky and a carrier bearing drop kit got my angles close enough that the shutter is very minor at take off and I can live with it. My truck had a little over 3" of lift on option 2 with an empty bed then settled down closer to 3" after some time.

After tightening everything to spec, everything feels smooth during normal driving. I only feel a very slight shudder when I floor it from a dead stop. Based on what I've read so far, this points towards axle wrap? I never went WOT when my truck was stock, but I've seen some posts about this affecting stock trucks as well. I'll have to get into a stock truck and see if what I'm experiencing is just a design flaw of leaf springs in general.

Apart from that, I don't have any vibrations at any speed or when slowing down and coming to a stop. Everything feels as smooth as before. If driveline angles were the issue, wouldn't I also experience some sort of vibration at any other time other than hard (lol) launches? If I hadn't been spending time on tacoma world becoming hyper sensitive, I don't think I would have ever noticed anything at all with the way I drive.

Does anyone have a photo of their rig with option 3 setup + full load? Trying to get an idea of how it looks. Currently have option 2 with my 2gen DCLB and with RTT and full bed load, I'm sagging more then I like.

Yeah probably the best route. Just afraid I won't like the rake in the rear when its not loaded on option 3...lol

You’ll get used to the rake IMO. I look at leveled trucks and laugh now :rofl:

How often do you spend loaded down vs empty?

If you are loaded down more than empty go to option 3. If you are only loaded down a few times a year helper bags like firestone ride rite with daystar cradles make an excellent combo. My 2nd gen DCLB is only loaded down a few months of the year so I installed ride rite/daystars and love the extra lift and stiffness they give when loaded without sacrificing level and ride harshness when not loaded down.

Ahhh pretty much the same as you. Loaded only a few months between Spring/Fall for camping trips. Otherwise the bed is always empty. I do have a camper shell, Frontrunner rack and full size spare on at all times.

Here a picture from this past weekend and you can tell it's sagging. *Red Tacoma*
