Yeah I really love the 2nd gens. So reliable and I think they look great as well. Used cars are just so expensive now.

    Question for fellow SR5 owners…

Has anyone with the Diode Dynamic SS3 Fogs noticed that they cause your daytime running lights to dim when used at the same time?

Not SR5 owner, but I can confirm my truck does the same thing with the DRLs whenever the fog lights are on

Ok cool, I wasn’t sure if it was just the amber DRLs on the SR5 or maybe even just my truck. Good to know, thanks!!

I don’t know a thing about electrical systems but it’s interesting to me that they cause the DRLs to dim but don’t effect the headlights at all.

I took a couple of photos just to make sure I wasn’t seeing things. You can definitely tell the DRLs are much dimmer (like, barely even illuminated) when the fogs are on…

I contacted Diode Dynamics about the DRL issue and they suggested disconnecting the battery to reset the ECU, and that they’ve never seen this issue before.

I’m hesitant to disconnect the battery though, because I don’t want to erase my KDMax tune.

I know the feeling ... If it was me, Id leave it alone since Tacoma got it tuned... dim lights do not bother me as long as the fog lights are bright enough.

If you want to use DRL bright, then turn off fogs.. I use fogs in dark roads such as country or off roading..

Yeah I 100% agree with you, at least for now I’m not gonna mess with trying to fix it. Especially since the fogs don’t affect the headlights at all, that’s the important thing.

The battle to weatherproof the roof after the Prinsu came off last year continues…

If anyone is looking for a good OEM-like replacement for the roof molding strips, I found these to be really good:

    https://www.automotiveauthorityllc....toyota-tacoma-black-roof-top-trim-molding-kit

Very cheap and it comes with both sides. You will need to use some extra adhesive because the 3M that it comes with isn’t enough to adhere to the roof. Excellent quality and fit, just requires a little trimming (can be done with scissors) because they send you extra which I appreciated.

No pics because it just looks like the roof molding from the factory.

I can’t remember if I linked this thread
Or not yet but here’s the rest of what I did:

I learned today that apparently the DRLs are supposed to dim when the fog lights come on, so that solves the issue I thought I had with the DD fogs.

Also got the Cali Raised bed stiffeners installed, thanks to @Majora and @RedDeadTaco!!

Ordered this guy a few weeks ago and it finally came today. A few big trips are in the works so this will be a great addition for comfort.

Hey, I created an account specifically to ask you about this setup with the kayaks and billie bars. What size kayaks are those? I like the way it looks, and am considering billie bars to hold kayaks as well. I see that you put something, maybe a towel, at the front end of them to stop from rubbing. Wife and I basically got some 10ft fishing kayaks for free and seeing if it feasible to haul them the way you have.

Hey, that’s awesome you created an account just to ask about that lol…mine are are also 10 foot kayaks. I stuck pillow cases on the front of the kayaks to protect the paint and it’s worked like a charm so far. I’ve done a 3.5 hour drive in the rain with the kayaks on that set up and they didn’t budge.

I’m not sure where you’re located but I’m actually going to be selling my BillieBars in the next month or so…they’re great and work very well but I have an ARE bed cap on the way that already will have a roof rack built in. I’m just waiting for the cap to arrive and unfortunately I won’t be able to incorporate the BillieBars into that set up obviously.

The BillieBars are amazing and I’ve loved them, my wife and I are in the early stages of planning at least 2 different cross country trips in the truck so I need more space in the bed than just a bed cover would allow. That’s The only reason I’m getting rid of the BillieBars.

I understand your concern about front end protection but it doesn't hurt from bugs if you travel on hwy. All you do is clean it with soap/water.. easy to clean..

It's not paint.. just roto molding. They have plastic or fiberglass sand, just like beach sand... for example, you pick sand up in your hands and make castle with it at the beach.

You can see how they are made in the video:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVnA-TXlk-M

    Amazing, huh?

My kayaks (non-angler) were made before 2005.. which means my kayaks are thick and heavy... very strong than the new kayaks that are light and thin... I had Trip 10 in 2017 but I noticed the bottom is too wobbly from water.. I sold it a few months after use. I plan to get angler kayak someday. Right now, I have 11 ft and 13 ft kayaks..

If you go fishing in kayak, then we can go fishing sometime.

I appreciate all the info! I actually use the pillow cases to protect the paint on my truck because the kayaks scuffed the paint just behind the rear door when I didn’t use a cover
    :annoyed:

I don’t fish unfortunately I just like to float around and do some paddling! I’m lazy lol

Oh.. I get it now.. It's good idea.

I understand about being lazy.. lol I usually float more than fishing... I mean if I have time to fish, then I go out fishing... Otherwise, I float around.

Yup... I used to float in the creek at the park... it was relaxing...

I was behind a friend of mine and he stopped but I had no idea what he was doing so I came around and noticed him... I couldn't stop because I was too close to him in the corner... no time to stop. I wreck him and we flipped over.. lmao

We weren't speeding... the water was flowing steady.... the creek has curves including trees. That's why I can't see him until I came around the corner and noticed him.. BAM.

    I will send you PM.
