Yeah, I seen that one, saved it actually. I think it is a bit high for my liking. Waiting to see if it drops any before it is gone.

Thanks though, I appreciate the heads up.

That's way too nice to sling on the back of a tractor lol. Looks like it belongs outside a Library or something. Tell your dad, "well done".

Did a little welding for the inlaws. These are bases for birdhouses that stick into planter pots. This is flux core wire feed. Also did mow 2 for the season after work last night. The fescue is thick already. 80F here in NW AR.

    Nice welds!

My days of self shielding wire are over with. Too much of a fire hazard with those VBV's popping all over the place...In addition its too cold up here 8 months of the year to be welding outside.

I'm too cheap to buy a bottle and can do all I need to with flux core. My garage is really big so no worries about spatter causing a fire although I don't really notice it being much different than MIG.

If I want something to look really nice I scrape the BBs off with my air hammer with a rivet cutter chisel. I didn't even plug it up to air on the first pic plate, just scraped them off.

Anyone have any experience with screw type log splitters? I could build one of these pretty easily with the screw costing ~$150 and using an electric motor or one of my tractor's front PTOs(snowblower PTO). I've also found a couple of PTO driven ones locally for $300ish.

Some vids look scary dangerous and others look safe. I still haven't figured out what the safest way to do this is but the ones that seem to look safer have a low mounted screw and a wedge below it.

They did a nice job building the machine, seemed to be a lot of handling the wood though.

Some of those vids I watched looked like the operator dodged a few bullets within 3 minutes. Think I'll pass on this one.

Yep, I noticed that on ALL the screw splitter vids, safe or unsafe.

Had one that ran on the rear wheel of a Ford pickup. If you didn't put it onto the screw correctly it would start to rotate, fast. To hit the clutch or kill the engine you had to get in the cab by going past the flinging wood. Not safe. Never got hit, but never used it much. Hydraulics preffered.

Couldn't use it with a Posi-trac rear end. It would drive itself off the lift blocks IIRC.

Pulled some shrubs. Sometimes a grapple would be nice.

It was a good day outside. Mid 70's, low 80, put the Grasshopper 720 back together, put the deck back on it after storage this winter, fired up all the push mowers, then I tackled the Old Ariens Rocket tiller. Time for a garden this years after 5-6 years of not having one. I did run it dry before I put it up way back when but i still pulled the carb bowl, cleaned it, cleaned the jets and put some gas in it. And........dang.............the bowl actually has a pinhole in the bottom of it. So after scrounging around for awhile, I found another engine in the workshop with a float bowl the was an exact match [Tecumsch # 30 bowl] pulled it off and lo and behold, it started up find and ran like a charm. Tilled the garden up after checking all the fluids and topping off the drive gear oil. You can't beat these old tillers, it's what the old Troy bilts wanted to be when they grew up.

Then I decided, after hauling in some mulch from my pile in the woods to get the old Miata out and go for a drive. Great day for it, had some old 70's R&R on the I-pod and just went cruising around the lakes. And what did I find on the way back? A VERY nice series 80 Kenmore gas drier [it's really a Whirlpool] for FREE on the side of the road. Guy had just put it out, said nothing was wrong with it, his wife just got a new LG [Bwa HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!] fancy drier so she wanted it gone. The Series 80 is probably one of the best driers ever made in the past 50 year, used gas ones go for $150 all day long and get sold in a day around here. Ran back home, fired up the Taco and loaded it up and brought it home and plugged it in. runs perfectly, doesn't even need "M" coils though I'll toss in a dryer maintenance kit and coils before I hook it up, that will cost me about $25 or so. I'd bet that series 80 will still be running long after her new LG takes a dump. I have plenty of spare parts for whirlpools and while it doesn't need one, I probably have a timer somewhere which is the one part that gets discontinued before anything else.

All in all, it was a great day!

Finally got the latest Toro Z Master back together!

That charging issue was kicking my ass.!

Previous owner installed magnets on the flywheel out or sequence.

If course he used epoxy. Magnets were destroyed when removing them. Had to source new magnets .

12.4 ish resting voltage on the battery with engine off.

14 and some change while running at 2800 rpms.

Now to work on rehabbing the deck.

3 rebuilt idler pulleys. Will work on the allignment bar bushings tomorrow.PXL_20220423_142655331.jpg PXL_20220423_142720288.jpg PXL_20220423_203739933.jpg
