That's definitely why it exists birthday boy. :)

I was pissed off at the time when I made this because there were so many threads in this forum all non performance oriented with everyone too busy posting tire and light bar questions and getting fast responses all day long. This forum is a far cry from the GM and Ford performance dedicated forums and threads that I was used to so I really wanted to assemble a place to unite the performance minded individuals. There's nothing more that I love than seeing everyone here rush to help someone even if it's a dumb question or a dumb problem, because they are things that we have typically all run into here before. Even if we don't help, at least the support is here that may just be enough to give someone the kick in the ass they need to take the next step necessary towards a mod or a solution to their issue.

    :burnrubber::cheers:

Prepare yourself. You'll be going in deep, and if you need something, you got my number! It is a fairly straight forward thing like I said, but it can be daunting if you've never done it before.

Hey fellas. Hope your all well. Got a clutch issue. My original clutch started slipping so I installed a 4 terrain clutch seemingly it was supposed to handle the power of this engine. But nope, 18,000kms in and it’s slippery extremely bad in 4th and 5th gear.
Any suggestions of a decent clutch please?

I have a SPEC stage 2+ and I like it so far. Light pedal feel, and not too grabby. I can’t speak to the longevity of it though as I don’t have too many miles on it yet. I think others in here are running SPEC as well though with good results. Maybe they can chime in?

I've been running the SPEC stage 3+ for around 10k miles. I really like it once you get it broken in.

Spec 3+ here as well. Found it to be a really painful break in but once done has an almost stock feel. Really liking it now.

    My shit is all stock.
    Spec 3+ here.

I have about 5 to 6k miles on mine currently. Frankly, I hate it. Disc is super heavy. So, you get all of the downsides of that. Up shifts are terrible. Especially between first and second while you have to wait for disc RPMs to drop before I can get it to slide into second gear. Still very noisy engagement as well. Super embarrassing in drive-through’s and what not. Sounds like a total Hooptie. Engagement for me is super grabby. It is very difficult to drive my truck smoothly. Takes full concentration. This clutch does grab like crazy though. I’m positive it’s not going to slip. Ever! I can’t wait for an excuse to drop the transmission to get rid of it. At least the disc anyway. I was trading emails with someone at Spec. They were talking about making a hybrid disc for me. Then they suddenly stopped responding to emails about three weeks ago. Ugh.

Mine felt like that for the longest time then it smoothed out. It's near stock feeling now but I feel your pain with the break in.

    It'll get better.

Hopefully there is longevity to it.

That's not the first time Spec made a horrible replacement clutch that are not really meant to be driven. I feel like they design it but don't have people testing them.

Most of the manufacturers should be able to come up with a hybrid disc for you. Usually it includes a clutch disc with separated clutch packs (kevlar/metallic) with thicker material and springs on the inside hub. Your clutch sounds like a unsprung disc. Just assuming though if it's that grabby. We used to have a shop custom order our discs for our race cars but these days, the internet has fixed that.

Thanks for your reply guys. So what’s the story with breaking it in? Just heavy on the pedal and hard to take off?
This 4terrain clutch I had installed was supposed to be able to handle the power easily judging from there spec sheet and it’s soft on the pedal which was awesome but after 18,000 kms it slips really bad in top gears. I’ll have to do some hunting around on who has a spec3 clutch down here.

Just make sure it's 2+ (supposed to have great holding power and better feel) or 3+. A 3(with out the +) will be unsprung and be an almost on/off engagement.

Chatter. Chatter chatter chatter on take off during the break in period. It's normal, but I was surprised how much chatter there was. I just did clutch only (no gas) take offs from a dead stop around my neighborhood until it improved. I still sometimes get a blip of it from time to time in first, but I think that is due to my clutchmasters hydro throw out being weird. The pedal felt normal from the start. Slightly lighter I think than stock. But again, I did my hydro throw out at the same time, along with a light flywheel.
