I searched the forums, but couldn’t seem to find too many post discussing mud guards. Am I to assume that means they’re generally not popular or are we talking so basic no one talks about them?

I’ve got a 22 Sport DCSB without them and I need this forums validation

    Mudguards - yay or nay?

Put them on. Your paint will thank you and so will everyone driving behind you when you aren't flinging rocks into them.

What are you calling mudguards? Mudflaps?

I pulled my mudflaps because they hit when going over rocks, stumps etc.

I have them on my taco. Some serious off-roaders will not run them because they can get ripped off going over obstacles.

I find them to be an absolute necessity but I drive on gravel and dirt about 50% of the time. The amount of rock chips and dirt everywhere was drastically reduced when I installed the XL Rokblokz. If you mainly drive pavement and are only on un-paved surfaces every now and then they aren't really that necessary.

It's your choice, really, doesn't matter that the jury says.

i found that it depends on where and how you drive.
if you are towing on a gravel road mud flaps will save you from rock damage.
i have removed my mud guards because they tend to get broken off against the wheel when i back against obstructions while 4 wheeling

Are those the universal ones? What hardware did you need to attach them?

There's two ways to look at it. Raptors don't come with mud gaurds I don't think they are even an option, and Ridgelines don't come with mud gaurds, you could probably order splash gaurds as an accessory.

Yep, if I could give a gift to the world, it would be mudflaps for every car and truck.

If your not rock crawling every day on your way to work, you should have mudflaps on all the time. The body shape of these trucks makes it so the tires kick rocks right into the bottom half of the truck all day long.

I had OEM's. Removed them for other aftermarket hoping they were flexible enough for off-roading. The aftermarkets aren't, so when I go, I'll remove them at the beginning of the trail. On the bright side, they're easier to remove compared to OEM's.

With that, I agree with the majority. They're nice to have to prevent rock chips. I just wish we had flaps.

I bought the Toyota OEM mudguards (mudflaps) and tried putting one on. Hated them for several reasons, so ended up selling them…
1.) the screws go into plastic holes so they easily strip out during installation and it’s a pain in the a@@ to replace the plastic part that they strip.
2.) they are hard / not flexible so if you hit something (which you will because they have terrible clearance), they will rip the screws out and you’ll have a hell of a time replacing all the plastic things that the screws went into.
3.) they don’t look good - they detract from the overall appearance of the truck.
    3.) they are not inexpensive.

I’ve had zero issues with dirt or stones without them, even when off-roading. Some guys on TW like the aftermarket ones that are shorter and softer. Maybe those would be an option, but for me they are a waste.

They also help grab the flyers that can hit other's vehicles. The aggressive tread in some A/Ts and most M/Ts often pickup and throw mud and rocks.

Several threads on pros/cons if you search. I used those threads to decide on RekGens for my '21, primarily to preserve the paint, secondly to preserve the windshields on vehicles behind me. What goes 'round comes 'round etc. Easy to install, look good, don't flap around in crosswinds like some on previous vehicles. Ultimately your choice.
