Hey guys. I have a 2016 tacoma TRD sport 4 door 4wd with 43k miles. Want to do a drain and fill on the front and rear diffs and transfer case. I read through all of this and I think I want to go with the following:
5 quarts of Mobil 1 75w-90 for both diffs (1.6 qt for the front and 3.1 quarts for the rear)
1 quart redline MT-LV for the transfer case.

    Do I got that right?
    Thanks!

you don’t need that Redline stuff. I have run the Mobile 75w-90 in my TC for years

if your sport is an auto than you will have a smaller rear diff than the offroad or the sport manual which is 4.1 qts in the rear

also, if you tow a lot go with a heavier rear diff weight like 75w-110, otherwise what you said will work

Looks right to me. You need 3.1-4.2 qts. for the rear depending on model. I think that you will need 3.1 unless you have a manual.

    You will need 6 quarts.

    Edited to add:
Make sure that you can get the Fill Plugs loose & removed, before you remove the Drain Plugs.
You will also need a Transfer Pump for Front Diff and the Transfer Case.
And, the Transfer Case takes 1.1 qts (1 Liter). The Toyota Oil comes in a 1 Liter can, and it is exactly enough (and it is the only oil that you should put in there).

I second this. The rear diff alone takes like 4.3 lol

I used 6 qts of valvoline 75w-90 in the front and rear diffs, and I used Ravenol, with a tiny bit of 75w-90 to top off. Honestly, I don’t think you’ll have an issue using some 75-90, plenty of members on here say they’ve used it in their T-case for thousands of miles without an issue. That being said, I would make your own informed decision. Ravenol is like 20 bucks a liter, so I went with that, but it beats the hell out of paying 80-90 for Toyota’s seemingly magic, overpriced fluid. Also I would make a good habit of replacing the crush washers, but if you have to re use some, chances are they will be fine.

The Redline MT-LV that he lists is also $20/qt and compatible with Toyota LF.

Never catch me using 75-90 in the TC. Maybe it's fine, but I just don't see any reason to do it. You have to buy gear oil either way, so why not just buy 75w for the TC?
Redline and Ravenol are $20/qt... the same price as most other synthetic gear oils...
    (Maybe I'm just OCD)

Mine was the same. The spec says 4 qts for the rear, but mine took about 4.3 qts.
Thus, 6 quarts is just right.

Yup, that’ll do just as well! I’d say go for whatever is cheaper and easier to get honestly…

Thanks guys. I will grab 6 quarts of the mobil1. Currently my truck is on jack stands in the front as I have been working on the brakes. So I also went ahead and started draining all the diffs and transfer case. I was able to successfully get the front diff fill bolt loose and the drain bolt loose and successfully drained the front diff. It was pretty dirty looking fluid that came out. Next I tried cracking open the fill bolt and drain bolt of the transfer case. Again I was able to do both and drained the t-case. That oil still looked pretty good. I haven't done the rear diff yet as I couldn't budge the fill bolt. I need to go out and get a 1/2" breaker bar as I only have a 3/8" bar but my 15/16th socket is 1/2" so that bar wont work. Some questions I have are
    1) Did any of you guys replace the factory bolts in the front (those stupid 10mm hex bolts) with some bolts that can take a socket?
    2) Since the truck is still on jack stands in the front, should I wait until I finish the brakes and lower the truck before I go and refill the front diff and t-case since the truck currently isn't level?
    3) All the bolts I removed are all fairly rusty-wonder if I should replace them with new ones. Not sure how spendy that would be.

In the meantime I ordered 3 quarts of the redline MT-LV (so I will have enough to do t-case again the next time) and 6 quarts of the mobil1 from Amazon. I am going to my local dealer on Monday to get new crush washers for all 6 bolts and some new brake pad caliper clips and some of mine broke when taking apart my rusted brakes. I might see how much all new bolts for all three would run.

I am thinking that the first time I change the transfer case lube I will use the Toyota stuff, but also send a sample to Blackstone Labs to see exactly just what Toyota puts in theirs, then look for a comparable cheaper alternative. Has anyone already had the Toyota lube sampled?

You Figure most 3rd gen Tacoma's serviced at Toyota are running 75-90 in the Tc without issue. I've spoke with several Toyota techs and parts managers and they don't even keep the 75wt fluid on hand. Personally I feel most are making a bigger issue out of this than need be, Put clean fluid in it and it will work.

I’m not following exactly. You removed all bolts for the front differential and transfer case and have difficulty removing the rear fill plug BUT want to change-out the 10mm plugs but are fine with the 24mm socket one that you can’t remove?

Changing out rusty plugs wouldn’t be a bad idea. An entire set of 2 fronts, 2 rears and 2 transfers would run about $40-50. Possibly consider what I did. I bonded very strong high temperature neodymium magnets to all my drain plugs.

Same thing a lot of guys do here. They buy new tires for their new trucks. They buy bigger tires that reduce their mpg. They lift their trucks inducing future maintenance costs THAN comment when someone suggests buying a quart of oil that costs an extra $5 or choose to change their engine oil at 5k- oh vey.
