Yeah. Thanks. Maybe it's just one of those things it happens and I got the unlucky lotto. Hah! Just gotta figure out how to fix this issue/other issues related to it.

BTW, you missed quite the party last night!

Pulled the busted CV, bad ball joint assembly, and put a new one on roadside. Unfortunately, the wheel bearing got damaged in the separation and started squealing and smoking in the short limp up the hill to a buddy's house but at least we got it to a safe spot for a tow today.

damn. that really does look like a party. haha! that's too bad though. luckily it's a simpler fix than not. what happened in the first place? did the control arm just break?

Classic first gen ball joint failure on the LCA. Said he had the same issue not terribly long ago when the UCA ball joint separated in a similar fashion.

    Was it an aftermarket LCA?

I believe it was a non-OEM ball joint. That 4runner didnt have the LBJ on the arm, it has a secondary assembly that bolted to the spindle and tie rod and the ball joint dropped into the LBJ at an eyelet.

One thing I did learn just now (unfortunately after the fact) is that on that design, the CV axle and axle nut sandwich/preload the wheel bearing, so by us removing the busted CV axle for him to get it home, we contributed to if not caused the wheel bearing failure. :(

Regardless, we got him off a random street by Suncrest and to a buddy's house so he didn't have to worry about leaving it for the night, and everyone got home safe.

It was from last year on the last day. I did not see any tacos. Could definitely use a taco truck at the event though

    Aloha one et all,

The wife and I are on a big mission touring right now and she really wants to see the Red canyon slot (peek-a-boo) just outside of Kanab.

Has anyone been out there recently?

Google is kind enough to have street view all the way out there, it looks pretty tame but a fair amount of sand.

I am in a stock OR DCLB, anyone with experience think I'll be fine?

    You should be OK.

Id call the ranger station and ask about road conditions since theres a few roads that dont tolerate moisture at all, and its recently rained.

Biggest thing on south Utah sand is stay on the gas. You stop and you bog down esp when its warm.

One totalled, one got a kick in the ass and lost its tail rotor (add some elbow grease and it'll buff out).
