    'Morning crew. :pccoffee:

Just lazy around a bit this morning. Headed to University Campus to take a mechanical aptitude test shortly. Figure I'll do ok but little nervous...for no reason other than just my nature sometimes.
Not sure what I'll do this afternoon. Relax I guess. Another day of wind but only in the 20mph range today.

Oh yeah, have always had AC except one rental years ago, but even then had a couple of window shakers that did ok.
In Arizona some houses have both a swamp cooler and air conditioning. Swamp coolers work decent for a part of the summer.

My wife is always freezing so AC use is limited here.

Mine hasn't gone out, but the age of the furnace and the low efficiency of the A/C has us considering a completely new setup. Just weighing the pros and cons of the cost of continued repair v total cost of replacement.

We pretty much didn't have a choice when we moved into our house in 2005, the HVAC unit both heat and ac constantly had issues. We wanted all new and be done with it. If I recall it was between 5-6k and we had the ductwork cleaned at the same time. I didn't see it but wife said the ducts were filthy from years of smokers in the house, general grime.
The unit installed has been fairly trouble free...except one day...Christmas eve of course.

That's what we were quoted, but out ductwork needs to be completely rerouted. There are a BUNCH of stupid stuff, plus some of it is still asbestos insulated. OH! And the returns and supplies are run backwards in most of the house in that the returns are on the perimeter walls and the supplies are on the interior walls. Having a finished basement isn't going to make it easy to re-route everything either.

Your house must be fairly old? Returns on the perimeter is how the old gravity heating systems were piped.

One of the guys that gave me a quote told me to just have mine cleaned. Said it was an extra $3500 just to have new ductwork.

edit: my house is only 1200 square feet

Our house isn't that big, 984 sq. feet. We have a gas package unit with about 3' of hard duct ran through the wall into the crawl space and the rest is flex. I've had to replace a few runs of flex over the years.

Supposedly flex is really hard to find right now, everyone is building and the supply can’t keep up.
