Yes, as long as it was purchased and installed by the dealer.

I would speculate that it's similar to body shop repair: The original warranty applies to original parts, and any replaced parts come with their own, separate warranty.

Edit: its a gray area because the parts were (or will be) technically replaced due to damage, and not from factory defect. I don't know if a dealer can squeeze new parts under the umbrella of the original warranty, but technically damage replacement should come with its own policy.

I quoted exactly what he stated. Not sure how you are still struggling to accept that?:confused::confused: The point is still the same that this forum is full of people that think every time something goes wrong no matter how minor the issue is, that they should get a brand new replacement. Apparently the OP is no different. My observation was not measured by what degree the OP actually went to make his demands, just the fact that once again someone thinks that because someone made a mistake the result should be a complete and total replacement. I get where you are coming from. I realize that in your world of the US Navy that you weren't exactly allow to think for yourself unlike the rest of the Department. I'll explain a little deeper if you need me too.

Let's be clear. I am not diminishing the situation. From all indications (and we only know one side here) is that someone failed to complete a service. I would be angry as well, but that doesn't mean the restitution should be greater than the damage. A brand new car? Why would you need that? Running low on oil somehow makes your turn signals go bad? A brand new motor? Are we talking long block or short block? Again what has gone wrong or could have gone wrong as a result from the damage caused by the mistake? That is what should be repaired or replaced. The shop has the responsibility to fix what is wrong, not pay for pain and suffering. My experience is that not going into something being a dick, usually gets you a better resolution than those that go in making unreasonable demands and silly threats i.e the 'lawyer up' threat. Your results may vary.

OP, been following along and I wish you the absolute best response to your rather unfortunate situation.

You have been very reasonable, for sure. You are not demanding anything. You are venting a little -- and I think you are really struggling with the simple fact that no matter what the dealer does the truck is going to drive you nuts. You will always worry every time you hear a noise ... uh oh ... is my engine going down because of that oil change 5 years ago? As someone mentioned, there is small group of people who this kind of situation would drive nuts -- seems like we are both in that group. :)

Your reasonable approach is going get you the best result, for sure. My advice is to focus on what you really want to make you happy. That may be a new engine. That may be trade the truck in and get another one (even if it costs you a few thousand dollars, in the big scheme of things that is not a big deal). But really do some soul searching and find out what it is going to take for you to be truly happy ...

Then let the dealer know how bummed you are and let them know you are really looking for them to partner with you and make this right. No need to take a position (or hire a lawyer) until you see what their opening offer is ... and how far apart you are on what you really want. I think with that approach and your history with them you will get this worked out.

Good luck and please keep the forum updated. I think a bunch of us are rooting for you ... and really want to see this situation work out to your satisfaction ...

I don’t. I get in my truck, start it and drive way. :notsure:

If I were worried about the service center NOT doing their job, I wouldn’t go there.

IIRC, I read a similar situation on here where an engine had to be replaced new by Toyota..I forget if it was something like OP's situation or it just went bad and was a defect. Regardless, my recollection is that the extended warranty would specifically cover the entire vehicle including the just installed engine. That said, @Rannyhill you'd be wise to make sure that is spelled out exactly in clear language if that's the outcome.

Oddly enough I didn't until I started reading shit on TW. :anonymous:

Then like a tinfoil fool I put secret chalk marks on my tires and filters at my last dealer service, and sure enough, it came back with everything rotated, changed, and tightened as it should have been.

Good to know that they do as promised in case I'm feeling too lazy to change my own, now that warranty is out.

Hard to tell from what you wrote, but if he left a voicemail, save it somehow.

If the dealer is not responsive to you, I'd start with a call to corporate before getting a lawyer involved. Actually, maybe call corporate and open a case either way so it is documented by an entity outside of you and the dealership.

When I got my truck, it had the symptoms of low ATF. I took it to several dealerships and none would actually check the level. They just said that's how these trucks drive and there were no trouble codes, so it must be fine. A call to corporate got me to a new dealership where they found it was 2 quarts low. They gave me a free 8 year/125k bumper to bumper warranty which I will be using later this year for the timing cover leak and coolant crossover leak ..

OP, you are far to rational and reasonable to be on an internet forum. Please leave before you learn to jump to conclusions, and we ruin you with excessive snarkiness and negativity.

Let's all agree to not post anything further until the OP reports back with an update/official word from the dealer. That way we won't have to keep sifting through a bunch of BS to stay on top of what's actually happening with the OP's situation... and yes, I realize the irony of making a post about not posting.

And when it comes to our vehicles, you and I are exactly alike. I'm the one who parks way out in the parking lot...and absolutely hates to have any of my vehicles touched or worked on by anyone other than me.

I have never left a dealership after a repair without checking out the repair that was made. Even if it was a free oil change.
It would have just taken a couple minutes to raise the hood and check the dipstick and then look under the truck for leaks.
A vehicle is your second biggest investment. OP should have taken a couple min to check out his truck and this could have been avoided :crapstorm:

Agreed; and when someone is paid to perform this service, its understood that they do this in exchange for your money. OP is not to blame.

You are exactly right. Everyone is speculating on the damage. If they do not find damage, they do not have to do a thing. If they do, then they have an obligation to fix the damage. And a lot of people keep saying "get a lawyer." Lawyers aren't cheap. Are you going to pay a lawyer thousands of dollars if they find no damage? Emotions mean nothing in court. We all empathize with OP but if no damage is found, you have absolutely no legal standing.

The insinuation is that its OP's fault that OP is having to deal with this. The paying customer shouldn't have to perform their own checklist for every service they pay someone else to do.

I’d like to know this too. Still have not received any communication from the dealer regarding damage found. That’s not surprising due to the multitude of diagnostic tests they should be performing. I would hope as a consumer that such a thing would be documented on a history report. Seems like the right thing to do.
