    Story Time With Gritto :)

Trapshooters call this issue "Cross Dominance".
I'm very familiar with this, since I'm right handed and left eye dominant.

To solve the issue as far as trapshooting goes, you must either learn to shoot from your "off side" i.e. the reverse of your "handedness"...
    ...close your dominant eye...
    -- Or --
...find a way to somehow switch your eye dominance.
    More on that below.

People who have not thought the matter through often say that you never aim a shotgun; you point it.
That's true as far as it goes, but will lead one to the wrong conclusions.

For the competitive shotgunner, whether the sport be Trap, Skeet or Sporting, alignment is achieved with proper gun fit and training oneself to mount the gun consistently.
Alignment meaning that when you mount the shotgun, your eye is properly positioned so that the front bead indicates the point of impact...
...whether the goal be flat shooting (as in Sporting or Skeet) or somewhat above the bead (to compensate for rising targets as in Trap).

Some shooters claim they can shoot just as well with no front bead.
I've noticed that damn few of them have actually removed their front bead, and even fewer of them are any good.
You do NOT want to focus on the bead, but you are aware of it, if only subconsciously.
That's why so many trapshooters use fluorescent Hi-Viz orange or green beads or light pipes.
The bead is fuzzy and out of focus, but you see it alright.
Those who really CAN shoot well without a bead are aware of the out of focus blob of the muzzle.

You'll notice by now that I haven't mentioned simply closing the dominant eye.
That works for rifle and pistol shooting, though it is not ideal.
For the shotgunner, it is quite simply bad (though many beginners do it).

It is bad because you lose your depth perception.
For disciplines like Sporting or especially Trap it is doubly bad for another reason.
With unpredictable target flight, many targets will escape because the shooter loses sight of it.
The target has gone to the side with the closed eye.

So how can you trick your non dominant eye into taking over? (I hear you asking).

    Some trapshooters do this:
Mount the shotgun as you normally would.
Have a friend look from the muzzle end and line up the front bead with your off-side dominant eye.
Then he makes a mark on your shooting glasses on the center of your pupil with a fine point Sharpie.
Then you place a small piece of Scotch tape over the mark.
Personally, I would take a piece of tape and place a 3/8" washer over it and cut a circular piece with an exacto knife.

    Here's the point:
You can see the target go in any direction and have full depth perception...right up to the split second before firing.
The tape forces your non dominant eye to take over.
Of course, it takes some training before this works seamlessly.
It doesn't work for everyone, though I suspect they just gave up on it and went back to closing their dominant eye.

Post 4 Shooting glasses with dot on left lens.
Just visible in upper right of picture is a Hi-Viz light pipe with tiny magnets to attach to the rib of a shotgun (available for various rib widths).

A have boxloads of trophies, but here's three on a bookshelf.
Minor shoots often award cases of shells, which I preferred.

It’s an acquired taste . If you like whiskey or bourbon it’s good . I make them with 2 shots of good whiskey ,one shot of sweet vermouth and a whole bunch of dashes of bitters . I twist an orange peel into it also .
    Two of these and :D

I like to make a dry Manhattan. I use dry vermouth instead of the sweet. Extra dash of bitters, makes a really good drink!

Or sometimes I'll go equal parts sweet and dry vermouth.

I'm starting to sound like an alcoholic...
