Yep. That was life or death back then. No internet, no cellphone. If you were a kid like I was and too young to drive, you were completely at the mercy of whichever phone numbers you had memorized if you got into trouble.

I remember all our phone #'s and addresses from the late 80's.

My GF and I have been living together for almost 8 years now, still don't have her number memorized.

 

Yea I gotta say, things were good before cell phones. Those were the days eh? The only thing you had to worry about was getting home on time before dark!

I remember as a kid living outside of Chicago, my dad would be up every morning with his Thomas Guide on the kitchen table and his little cup of quarters to plan his sales calls for the day

Weird looking up an old address. I figured the duplex(s) would have been torn down by now. But still there. They look in bad repair still. Tree in front yard that wasnt there as a kid. Ill have to dig up old pic vs "new"

 

The very first home I lived in as a kid got turned into an airport parking lot lol

 

As a little kid, I lived in Gardena, Cal. near Los Angels. That was 1964. That house looks exactly the same today. Same color too.

I remember before zip codes existed. It was just a 2-digit postal "zone" number. Then they came up with the 5-digit zip, then the nine.

 

Meant area code

 

I was wondering.

 

I think dialing the zip code was the direct line to Boone's Farm . . .

 

We were on a party line. Had to wait till the neighbors hung up before you could call.
