@dwphoto bingo! I've rocked an alloy frame since '12 and I'd rather have an alloy w/ higher spec'd components than a CF frame and lower components. This was the high end of my budget but think I'll be happy!

I’m not sure any details whatsoever, but my local bike shop changed ownership and names. Feels weird man.

    That is weird.

It'll be even weirder when they start only selling townies and city bikes.

Yea I had a small panic attack when I pulled in the parking lot and saw a different sign. Aside from moving some stuff around not much has changed. Same employees (decent guys/gals), same lame ass selection of full suspension bikes. Their lack of bikes is more of a reflection of their market than them but it still sucks. Only 2 full suspension bikes when I went in:(

You don’t need to buy a bike anyways lol. I haven’t ridden all year I just saw it. The previous owner did make some dramatic post last month about chasing another adventure and blah blah. Idk what went down or if it was even a bad thing. But sunset is a dumb name haha

They went with sunset since sunshine was already taken.

    https://www.sunshinecycles.com/our-brands/

Jokes aside, sunshine is a decent smaller shop in Athens.

My LBS (trek store) has little to no decent bikes in stock. A few entry to mid level MTB, road and crossover types. They were pumped to have finally received a couple top fuels the last time I was in there. The customers had ordered and been waiting on those since sometime in 2020

It was nice but way too rocky for what I’m capable of riding with my skill level and current fitness level. It had lots of roots and ruts, too. Got me thinking of learning how to endo and swing the back around. But first, I think I need to learn how to track stand, bunny hop, and or drift. That was my first time riding the loop (clockwise - uphill on Gabrielino, downhill on El Prieto) or just being on the trails there ever. Never hiked or scouted it either. Morning time is nice for the shade and parking availability at the top lot near the trailhead. It looked like another lot below had more parking spaces. El Prieto had some switchbacks that almost had me go othb. One of my friend’s buddies did go othb and my friend got it on video. We had a good laugh with the replays. Luckily, no physical injuries; just egos got hurt. I was getting passed by a bunch of folks and their kids on Gabrielino. I blame the bike. Lol and myself. Trail wasn’t dusty at all (possibly some help from the recent rain) and there were a few small creek crossings.

Hey, you ever ride at the Sapwi Bike Park? I volunteered there once to help clear the soil for the pump track. Forgot my shovel and became a donation. Does it get crowded?

Man of the same mindset. That looks like an awesome ride adventure, with an excellent ending.

Probably a good time to sell a shop at the top of the market. Same goes for all these manufacturers getting sold recently.

You're gonna love it! I bought two Marlin 6's in that same color scheme. My wife still has hers and LOVES it, but I traded my M6 to an M7 to get a bigger size. Killer hardtails to get into MTB! I've upgraded almost everything on my M7 at this point and it just gets better every ride.

Went on my first ride a few days ago after ~10 weeks off due to an ACL injury. Popped the front end up over a lip to clear some roots and came down on small stump that wasn't cut flush on the trail. Tacoed the front 180mm rotor. New one should be here tomorrow, but had to walk it out on the back wheel since I left the multi-tool at home for a short ride. Didn't want to cause more damage beating it like a caveman with a rock on the side of the trail. Thankfully we were headed out though, so less than a half a mile walk back.

Awesome! I hope to learn a lot on this thing and figure out what I want out of a bike. I’ve only heard good things from folks who have owned any of the Marlin series.
I’m ready to ditch those glow in the dark-esque pedals like you did. That’ll be the first upgrade

Thankfully ours came with black nylon pedals from the shop haha. I put Chesters on my M6 and Stamp 1 on my M7.

The ONLY thing I've done to my wife's M6 was replace the awful palm grips. Other than that she's having a blast on it in stock form with zero plans to upgrade. I'll end up putting a dropper post on for her at some point, but she's still learning the basics, so it'll be another season or two.

Both her M6 and my M7 are the last year that Trek put an internal dropper post routing hole in the frame :D

My last team used Jakroo for out kit. Pretty nice stuff and they do small (and single) runs of kit for a reasonable price.

That's the best one I know off hand but there may be more options for small-run custom kit in the US that I'm not aware of.

I will check it out, how are they with quality of high res photos? essentially, I am trying to find a good quality company where I can have a high res photo of a good friend, and a soldier who I served with passed. gonna need one for the ride for sure. I did a basic search and all I could were "cheap" ones or at least it seemed like it to me.

True, I’m just not sure it was “sold”. He posted he was stepping down/away. So weird situation overall.

That would be a question for them. Or whoever you decide to do your kit. I know the people we deal with a Jakroo Canada are extremely helpful.

The designs we've used in the past have always been vector designs done on a computer in the first place. I'm not sure how a photo would translate. If it's a high quality image it shouldn't be an issue I don't think but I'm not the expert.

my company used voler for our custom jerseys/kits. custom meaning custom colors and a few logos, nothing as intricate as a picture though
