Every investor is different. What works for one may not work for another. It's good to see a thread like this where ideas come together for the betterment of the group.

Well if I would've bought yesterday I'd be down -$100 a share.

 

The nice thing about 10% annual average is that after about 4 years, a 30% drop just means you're back where you started.

This really is a game of patience and not panicking.

 

I made a nice little play on the $5's for friday on that run up...In at $48 out at $66 on a trailing stop...37% return in an hour....Now if only I had yolo'd

Welp, couldn't help myself and grabbed 10k of VTI just now. 12.5% off ATH I can't ignore.

Basically my heuristic is this:

DCA X each month.
If 10%-19% down from ATH, immediately buy 2xDCA amount and DCA 2X each month remaining in this range.
If 20-29% down, immediately invest half available cash and continue 2xDCA each month remaining in this range.
If 30%+ down from ATH, invest 100% available cash and continue 2xDCA each month remaining in this range.

The SP500 has drawn down over 30% only 4 times in it's 70 year existence. For 20%, it's 12 times. You don't want to miss either as a chance to buy in.

~10% is nice, but fairly frequent and not as big a deal if you miss it.
