I think the bcg was slamming back too fast and the light spring didn't have enough umph returning to battery. I don't have any last round bolt hold open issues so based on all the research I'm going with under sprung and under weight buffer. If I still have issues it's one thing I can rule out and was an inexpensive test

In the case of this example look up dwell time as it relates to ARs. This is why people will use a heavier buffer. Extra power springs help with return as already explained.

LGS was having their anniversary sale this weekend and next. Manufacture reps were there. Went in today to talk to the Vortex rep. Long story short I think my swampfox arrowhead 1-10 experiment is over on the AR10. I just can't get over how bad and unforgiving the eyebox is on it even with a fully adjustable stock to get proper cheek weld alignment.

I wish I had FU money I would have just bought a razor hd gen 3 1-10 today but need to save up for that one for a while.

Prime example of how these optics are different for all of us. I find my Swampfox easy to get behind and the Vortex I have difficult. You had a great opportunity to try the Vortex and figured out what works best for you. One of the things I’ve been happy with on the Bushnell it’s very easy use even at the highest magnification. I can deffinately see a doctor fference with the Swampfox between low magnification and high but luckily works good for me.

I don't have issues with my 1-8 Arrowhead just find the 1-10 to be a lot less forgiving at full power. It's fine at low power but once I go past 8x it's just incredibly unforgiving for me which sucks for follow up shots. No issues with the glass on the SF still think for the $ the glass clarity is awesome

While the Razor HD 1-10 is fantastic as it should be for the price I still don't know if I can justify that kind of $$. Reading up on the Athlon Ares 1-10 now. That's becoming an option at 1k savings.

So took out the Aero again this morning to test the new buffer spring. No issues running the under powered PMC 147 gr 7.62. Overpowered hornady superperformance 168gr also ran fine. Made adjustments to gas block for first time 5 clicks restricting from fully open seems to be the good spot unsurpressed. Good feed and consistent last round bolt hold open. Perfect 3 o'clock ejection. Was 1 o'clock ejecting with wide open gas block.

What we can't figure out is feeding issues with federal gold medal match 175gr. Multiple fail to feed an to make it more confusing last round bolt hold open issues to. We're pretty sure this issue isn't related to the buffer system. Could be something with the size/shape of this particular cartridge

@Casper66 any chance you can snap a pic of your feed ramps and share it? Buddy thinks may need to work on feed ramps to blend them into the chamber.

I mean I only bought a couple boxes of 175gr so if it feeds everything else reliably now it's not the end of the world but still an issue I'd like to solve because there's no reason it shouldn't feed it reliably.

I will be happy to try. Good to hear the buffer adjustments helped idk if the same will work for me or not as I have the full length buffer. It sounds like you are having the exact issues we th the one ammo now that I have with the Winchester 7.62 rounds. I hoped to shoot yesterday but that fell through. I guess I could try removing a well get from the buffer. I’ll take a pic here in a minute

We thought about that but doesn't appear to be an oal issue.

Maybe a projo issue with a little different shape/ girth

175gr FGMM left Hornady 168gr superperformance match right
    20220501_120808.jpg

Feed ramps you can kinda see there's a little bit of a step there vs a smoothish blend into the chamber. Possible the 175 is getting hung up causing feed issue. I don't have another AR10 to compare but my BCM M4 is a very smooth transition on the feed ramps

    Better OAL angle20220501_121454.jpg

The federal 175gr definitely has more girth to it. The Hornady is a sleeker projo

I have heard nothing but bad about feed issues with the ballistic tips they apparently are more for bolt guns.

Thanks yours does appear to have a much cleaner blend than mine. Interesting.

And the ballistic tip were the ones feeding with no issues.
