Thanks for the reply man! I've read some good things about the beaches. I'm not afraid of a 2-5hr-ish drive. Padre Island National Seashore is on the short list, I also fly fish. I've been up to the Sam Houston and found scoped out some dispersed camping there, seems like its pretty lean on spots though.

 

Need to head to Jambo in Gilmer. About a 3.5 drive from Houston, well worth it.

 

If it’s 4/30-5/1 I have a conflict : /

 

I always see Jambo mentioned on here, but I don't recall if anyone gives any details. What/when is it?

April 28- May 1. Good time with Toyota enthusiasts driving around trails in Barnwell park. They have guided trail runs, rock garden races and blind man race. Super fun times. And the famous raffle with awesome prizes. I won a CVT roof top tent a couple of years ago

Has anybody here put an undercoating on their frame, and is it even necessary for a 3rd Gen in Houston?

 

I'm no expert, but isn't that for places that get a lot of roadsalt from winter road melt?
I don't think the south usually worries about that much.

 

Not sure on 3rd Gen, but I've had my 09 since new and no issues. I could see if you spent a lot of time close to the coast or on the beach.

 

I wouldn't say I spend an excessive time on the beach, and I usually wash off the undercarriage right away. So I'm probably good, but wanted to cover my bases!

Eh, Toyota frames are Shit. Our ‘13 was a texas car it’s whole life and because of salt water it has 2 rust holes in the front crossmember under the radiator.
