The trade-in value for the OP is the value of the truck when he drove it into the lot, not after the dealer tech did the damage. No matter the outcome, the dealer should NOT make any money on this situation. They have insurance to cover their mistake, they can fix the vehicle and sell it, and they can easily sell a new truck to the OP at their cost (which is thousands under MSRP).

If it was me the hassle that this dealer has caused because they didn't pay and train their techs isn't going to make me whole even if I was to drive away in a new vehicle.

Hearing knocking and then seeing oil under the truck with a warning light and low oil after an oil change seems like a reasonable person would say that was a rod knock from low oil pressure.

This thread turned into a :crapstorm: real fast. OP hopefully they might it right for you. It’s been a couple of days already and you’ve still heard nothing back? I would at the least be inquiring what exactly is going on.

Why hasn't Toyota changed the design of the oil filter housing? It's been 7 years since the 3rd gen hit the market, the metal oil filter housing seems like a popular modification.

There is no way the plastic housing is a better design.

Im sure it has to do with less material needed for the filter. "more green" either way they wont change it , nothing is idiot proof

Screwing Al into Al is suboptimal. With corrosion I bet more dum dums and techs get them stuck.

I don't own a 3rd gen and still want to change the filter housing. I don't like the way plastic filter housing sounds, it does not sound as durable. Plastic can get brittle and break. If the metal housing isn't prone to corrosion or rust, why not change the design. Probably wouldn't cost Toyota more than $20 per engine.
Toyota probably only saves a few dollars per engine.

One plus of the plastic is if for some reason someone crossthreaded while installing, it would be the plastic canister and not the engine side.

Is it aluminum to aluminum on the Tundra?

If it's a bad idea why do people opt for the metal over plastic?

Metal on metal plus water(puddles) equals corrosion.

The plastic oil filter housing has kept me from purchasing a 3rd gen v6. I doubt if thats the sole reason, but I have thought about it when considering a 3rd gen v6 Tacoma.
