Picked this up, tried it a few years ago before the price hike and don’t remember if I liked it or not…usually it’s like $60+ now so I wasn’t willing to risk it, finally found it for $40

I bought two bottles.. because double gold medal or whatever. Bought them for ~$45/each. I was a little let down. Certainly not a bad pour but I was expecting more given the hype (should have known) Maybe I’ll revisit it tonight. I guess the catch with those are they’re single barrels, and I looked I didn’t get the same barrel as the one that took the gold lol.

I enjoy it. It’s one of my favorites out of all the bottles that’s easy to find.

Decided to revisit this one. Ours were bottled on the same day, and very close in barrel number.

Edit: still just can’t bring myself to love it. Bummer.

Womp womp. I kept my first (empty) bottle because the bottle date was my birthday lol. But, I remember immediately after the price went from like $30 to double that after the gold metal

You must be a fan of wheated bourbons. Ever try Larceny?

That’s fucked up, grown men running around in a liquor store looking for hidden prizes.

I haven’t, I’ve seen it quite a bit but never tried it. Good?

I haven’t either, I’ve only recently discovered that I prefer wheated bourbons and I’d be interested to try some more. Weller, Larceny and Redemption are on my to do list. I also found out Buffalo Trace makes a kosher wheated bourbon that I’d love to try. Probably impossible to find.

Honestly if you prefer wheated bourbon, Maker's makes some damn good whiskey. Maker's 46 and Cask Strength can both be found for less than $40 pretty easily and are amazing bourbons

Those are on my list too, thanks for the recommendation. It’s kind of sick, you see something readily available on the shelf, and it today’s crazy bourbon market you assume something must be wrong with it.

On another topic, the other bourbon I’m interested in hearing about is Basil Hayden Toast. I hear it’s hard to get, but I have access to it.

Actually, I didn't even know it was there or that they were doing that. I think it was just on a whim, and to try to bring in more customers since it's a store that just opened in the last 2 months. After I picked it up, I spent 10 minutes looking for the spot on the shelf that had a price tag for it. I finally just walked up to the sales counter once I picked up what I wanted and that's when they told me. I thought it was kinda funny, not fucked up.

I didn’t mean fucked up in a serious sense. Fucked up in a funny sense.

The Cask Strength is honestly one of my favorites and is always on the shelf. I have blinded it against some other harder to find bottles and it's consistently one of the best.

I have the Basil Hayden Toast and am not a fan. I think it's the brown rice in the mash bill, but it has a strange after taste. Hoping it will open up a bit with time

Sushi and EC18…. Lucky stop today after picking up dinner. TBH I don’t know much about it but the owner pulled it out from the back and said “you have to buy this, I get 2 or 3 a year” So I did.

    Anyone ever try it???

Is anyone interested in trading a bottle of Weller for something they want that’s difficult to get? One of my local bases carries a ridiculous array of Bourbons, one of the best selections I’ve seen. Just, no Weller.

    If interested, PM me.
