Spent an hour on the phone with the guy with the built bike today, he lowered the price more and is going to toss in even more stuff. Definitely a toss up now. He seems like a really good dude who just wants to talk bikes and that platform in general. Definitely making the decision more difficult now.

I am a huge fan. when my buddies are pulling off their goggles so they don't fog when we stop I am just pulling off my lense. So far the frame and foam is holding up great after 2 seasons, and I bought a dual pane clear lense for my night riding now too. Dug them so much I picked up a t shirt to rep them too.

damn that does complicate the decision.... it is a tough call, race bikes are typically well cared for but they get bounced off that limiter like a mother fucker as well

I really think the fresher motor is the most important factor in the end still here, but I am suffering of that none Japanese machine reliability paranoia though admittedly

that 8k for the 300mile bike is a pretty low price, how low did the race bike come down 7500??

Most fun I've ever had on two wheels and I have a lot of two wheelers.

An M badged GS? I don’t know. The 1400 sound enticing for sure depending on the range. So many choices!!!

If you're going to ride it back cross country, i might be interested next summer. My brother got into a grad school in San Jose and he "needs" me to visit. Don't know if I should take truck or bike

I'm wondering if it'll be more sport tourer than ADV. Like a 1290 super adventure S, smaller front wheel, road rubber, less suspension travel, etc.

Sounds like you're describing the RT/RS line of bikes BMW already makes.

Yeah, I suppose, but with a beak so everyone still knows its ADV AF ;)

I could see some room for styling differences. Aluminum or soft panniers instead of the more molded bagger-ish style ones, beaks, keep the GS tail, exhaust placement, no belly pan, etc. Appearance of a GS but riding characteristics of a RS or RT.

My commute is similar, about 15 miles each way but probably 10 of it is on 55+ mph highway and freeway. With my 225lb fat ass the 390 would do the freeway but she was screaming at 6-7K in 6th gear. On the FZ I can do 70 in 5th gear with the "ECO" indication showing.

I had thought about the same route, looking at V-Strom 650s and 850GS but decided that I wanted something a little more sporty for my quick commute and riding windy roads. I do still want to look for a DRZ400 or something similar to hit the forest service roads and play around a bit in the dirt.
