Who the heck knows?? I would say they owe you a brand new motor at least.

And I'd demand the service manager oversee the entire operation of the installation of the new engine.

LOL...so many posts about demanding this and demanding that...might as well demand a Tundra TRD Pro for all the emotional distress maybe have them through in a measly SR for a beater car.
OP, I really hope you at least get a new engine.

I don’t care what they do with it I just think it’s funny that so many think it’s trash now and this poor guy should get rid of it immediately but the solution is just pass it on to someone else. The dealership isn’t going to do anything if there is no current problem anyway and if there is they will have to fix so I guess it doesn’t matter one way or the other.

Yes, it's better to remain cool calm and collected. You don't want to give the Dealership an excuse to blow you off because of "attitude". Ownership philosophy will come into play.

Points for OP to consider in response to whatever resolution is offered:

    1. The dealership that was unable to competently perform an oil change is now going to be performing whatever repairs are deemed necessary

    2. There was some type of evaluation completed on your engine. The determination as to the damage done or not done is being offered by the people that are financially responsible for the damage.

    3. An evaluation that says there is no damage is only as good as the effort, knowledge and honesty of the inspector. Not finding damage doesn't mean there is no damage...it could mean the inspector is incompetent or dishonest. Maybe both.

Be polite, listen intently. Agree to nothing until you have time to process the offer.

The dealer is not in charge here no matter what others say. They damaged your property you have the right to have it towed elsewhere for evaluation and repair at their cost.

It will be cheaper for them to fix it and sell it as a "Clean, Low Mileage Trade-in" and put you in a new unit than to pay another shop to repair it.

Remain calm and respectful and you will be in a much better position to control the outcome.

well said. No wrenches should turn until OP authorizes it and is satisfied with the outcome.

Let’s hope it goes this way!

but if not, couldn’t OP pull the car, take it to a shop of his choosing, file a comprehensive claim, eat the deductible (for now) and let the insurance company subrogate?

Anything major like this needs to be approved I'm sure by a higher up.

Different situation than yours OP but my Tacoma had the frame rot last April. I knew that the 2 holes I found were both of the size to qualify it (only needed one hole and the larger of them was 1x2 inches, both were visible without getting under or lifting it). The dealer told me when I brought it in they need to send pics and get the approval every time no matter what, though he told me I'm sure yours will be approved without question (it was).

When I worked at a dealership when something like this happened it was fairly straight forward they are probably looking at / for a used motor with similar mileage or new. It will be swapped and out the door. Assuming it's tech error.it will go thru the shops liability insurance company. This situation sucks but OP has a loaner sometimes things don't move like light speed. He's been given a loaner, the details will come when they have a solution and op will be let in on it .

wouldn’t the motor and chassis serial numbers be non matching causing a issue with resale value?

Thanks for the insight. With a new/used engine, it should come with some kind of warranty for the engine and at least extend the original warranty.

If any problems occur, it likely would happen within the first year of driving it. I'd keep it as long as I was able to return it to the dealership for any abnormal engine faults & check engine light notifications. AND get that in writing!

It will be footnoted to the best of my knowledge, question what happens to a new car/truck when it is run off the transport set on the lot idling with out oil in it when some jerkoff at the manufacturing plant forgot to put oil in it and it seizes before it can be brought around to be parked in the receiving pen.....the manufacturer sends a new moter out, it's replaced, it won't match, the dealer didn't roll over like a cocker spaniel I had and piss all over its self. Shit happens it will be addressed. I seen it happen 2xs at he the dealer I worked at
