I suspect that when my wife said I should get a "small, family-friendly SUV" to replace my ‘93 Toyota Pickup she meant a Rav4 or something. However, I figured that all a vehicle really needed to be family-friendly was four doors and a reasonably roomy back seat and "small" was pretty much anything that wasn't a RAM 1500 or Ford F350. Also, I don't think she really cared as long as I would be driving a vehicle that wouldn’t need a weekend's worth of repairs every other month and could legally have a child safety seat in it.

So I got a Tacoma. 2022. Double Cab. TRD Off Road. Had to get a manual because I don’t know how to drive an automatic and therefore the short bed, which is sort of a bummer but I’ll deal. Went with Lunar Rock because it seems to be a pretty rare color for New England. Cement was also rare. Not sure why but I'm not native to this part of the country and don't really understand their ways.

Here it is right after I got it home and about an hour before a bunch of hail got dumped on it. I ended up giving the '93 Pickup to a buddy but I'm keeping the 2nd Gen. 4Runner that you can see in the background to indulge my nostalgia for late 20th century automotive esoterica.

Don't know how to drive an automatic, I love it. Best excuse for getting a manual ever. I'm sad everyday that I have a long bed and not a manual, but as you said, I'll deal. :D

But I bet that long bed comes in handy on occasion. It's frustrating that Toyota doesn't offer the M/T with that spec, but I'm sure they have a poor reason as to why.

take rate for a manual is low, sub 10%. take rate for a long bed is also low, sub 20%... so combine the two and it doesn't make sense to produce a truck that very few people want... though I drive a long bed and would prefer a manual
