I have a 2012 Tundra with the 4Runner engine. Ive had an odd noise for a while now probably 10K if not more. Truck has 150K mileage, brakes were just done, driveshaft rebuild recently. When I drive along a wall or cars I hear a cyclic clicking noise, my buddy told me his 4Runner does it too and that it can be multiple things. It’s driving me crazy and nobody has been able to guide me in the right direction or pinpoint through experience. I was told by my buddy who’s a mechanic that it can be the ac compressor, or belt components. Any opinions? We’re not talking about a squeak it’s a relatively loud chirp/clicking it’s not always the same in terms of pitch or repetition but it is always there when driving. It seems to be on the right (passenger) side of the truck so the sound could be getting out through the engine bay/suspension area. Ive got a 4” lift and plenty of space for an annoying sound to echo. I’d appreciate any advice or experience

Only when moving? I would be looking at wheel bearings, brake dust shields.

If it does it during idle then check engine idler pullies, belts, etc. Sometimes a bearing has to heat up a bit before it starts chirping.

It does it while moving but at the same time it’s pretty hard to listen over the exhaust sounds. I would check the wheel bearing but I don’t have a jack available atm and even then it may not make the noise if it isn’t under load. I’ve heard the noise of someone drives the truck by me but I can’t isolate it. It’s hard to identify for sure because most mechanics say they don’t hear anything. For the last year I’ve been playing the game of it’ll get worse and be easier to identify but man it has gotten a bit louder but still is hard to identify.
