To be fair, the OP did indicate he had a sentimental attachment to the truck and wished to pass it on to his second cousins ex wifes great grandchild.. or something like that... serial numbers matter.... what the fox said.

I’m just advocating for the OP here in light of this being both a new truck and completely not his fault. :notsure:

Seems to me (but admittedly I’m not sure) that having a mystery motor installed on a truck might reduce resale value….

With the tolerances these modern engines of any manufacturer are built too, There is no way there is not damage done to this engine.
Whether or not it shows up by the dealerships inspection is a toss up but there is absolutely damage done.
Good luck OP. Hopefully they make it right by replacing the engine with a new one at the minimum.

Do replacement engines come with a blank Vin# to be stamped by dealer if original engine block is destroyed and verified ?

I have no direct knowledge one way or another but I would think that every engine would always have a unique part number. If not it becomes impossible to determine the origin of the engine and the history. If there were ever a problem with an individual or batch of engines it would be imperative to be able to trace the origin of that engine to figure out why there was a problem.

Sub'd for resolution. Tell them you want a new motor w/ extended warranty. Get everything in writing

I actually hope this is not the case. A positive way of looking at this is the tech who performed the service obviously made a mistake that he’s learned from (I hope) and highly unlikely to make again. This one event might have turned him overnight into the most conscientious employee they have.

I say that as a veteran of mistakes (some minor, some major) that I’ve made in my life. From each one I’ve learned valuable lessons that have stayed with me. One lesson learned about ladders years ago made me extra careful about foot placement this morning while waxing the top of my wife’s 4Runner.

I'm gonna have to agree with the others on this thread that have said you need to get out before we corrupt you. This is a really good take.

While I do agree with that sentiment, I’d also argue that severe consequences can reinforce the lessons learned to other people witnessing the situation.

I'll agree, anytime you hear excessive knocking noises from the engine, and the dash lights come on, theres going to be some degree of damage.

    OME and worth every penny.
In situations like this the smartest thing a dealer can do is make the customer completely happy by offering to put him in a new at no cost and sell the truck to some sucker for as much as they get.

They would be ahead in the long run no matter the outcome they get with being well...a stealership.

Stumbled upon this thread. I cant wait to hear the outcome. I had a sunroof drain issue 6 months into my 2020 ORLB ownership. Drain blocked and leaked into the cab. Causing quite a funky odor. Stealership told me it was an outside influence. Complete BS. Drain had to be clogged from the factory. Went back and forth and back and fourth some more. They stone walled me and refused to remediate. It was a frustrating ordeal to say the least. This is my third Taco and I must say im very dissapointed in toyota standing by the customer. No sense in me fighting it They are well lawyered up. Good thing I did some of my own work and i think got the smell out!

OP I know your situation is going to work out. I'm sending you good vibes!
