Was just talking heat options with my dad because my parents are in the market for a home too. In their Connecticut house (~2,500 sqft) they were budgeting $6k per year winter for heating oil (furnace and water heater). Plus a few hundred in propane for cooktop, gas fireplace and auxiliary heat system for a bonus suite over the garage.

In Silver Spring for a similarly sized house, I'm at ~$1,500 for the last year on natural gas.

Not sure how extensive the gas network is up that way, but if you can find a house with heating oil on a street with a gas main, its probably worth it to run a line to the house to switch over. But who knows what the future holds with current volatility of the energy markets.

Some in my "very progressive" neighborhood are ditching their natural gas for geothermal or electric radiant to be more eco friendly, but theres definitely a cost premium to both those.

Good luck on that ROI. Referring to the geothermal. Natural gas it the way to go around here. I use oil since no gas line where I live. I filled up my 500 gallon tank beginning of the year. Price was around 3.29.

I was going to say that you don’t need to worry about tornados anymore but either reporting/predicting is getting better or there are more tornados these past few years.
MD does not have the fancy siren system OKC does.

I'm so much happier since I moved out of the "republic" and to the mountains of WV. Great Cacapon & Berkeley Springs is like Mayberry compared to Baltimore lol. I should've made the move sooner.

Hahahahahaha oh wait you were serious.
    1. We have fast lane Karen's, A LOT OF THEM. extra bright lights seem to get them out of infront of me.
    2. Not really, most don't even wave when passing.
    3. Don't know don't care about sports unless there is a motor involved.
    4. NO.
    5. Depends on your usage the outside weather the length of the winter cold snaps (still getting freeze warnings for this week) also depends on the size of the house if you have multiple zones for your HVAC if your a nudist or wear a coat inside. Electric heat is just as bad with BG&E. If you are looking for low COLA MD is not for you. Homes being built near me are on 1 acre and STARTING at the high 800,000's. This is a trend that has been on going for a while. Buy up farms and build a housing development for homes on no land over $500,000.

Check your oil filter housing after they do oil changes. Took mine to Koons Westminster when I still had free changes and they would over tighten it. Started doing my own changes when the free ones stopped and the plastic was stretching because they would over torque the housing.

there's nothing on his campaign page that addresses curriculum or supposed platform. The screen grab you posted seems misleading. Like, by a lot.

To me, the guy seems reasonable, articulate, and fiscally-minded in this statement: "We lose a tremendous amount of funds annually when kids are disenrolled ... and I want to see if we can restore the faith and confidence in parents who want to re-enroll their kids. Perhaps their stories of why they pulled their kids can highlight areas we can address and improve as a school system."

    And

"I appreciate the current board's efforts to keep our classrooms free of political and social agendas. Everyone needs to feel welcomed and focused on academic achievement."

At first blush, he seems like the kind of guy boards of education might night; in MD and other places.

    That all makes good sense.
But my kids are 20 and 23, respectively. :)
