I have one for my Gen 4 G19 and I love it. I read that CCI 36 gr Mini Mags were the best ammo for it and that's normally what I run but I've used others with very minimal issues. Besides, the point is training and it's not a bad idea to train for misfires.

I've read that they like 40 grain and up. But good to hear the 36 grain works good. Guess I need to order my LPK for it now, I think my LGS has the conversion kit so going to swing by this weekend and see what they have.

Never had any issues with the 36 gr Mini Mag. I'm honestly not sure what the other stuff is other than that it's Remington. Buddy who works there gave me a big plastic bag of .22 LR for my birthday a few years ago and I still haven't shot all of it.

Finally going to shoot for my first time ever! Bought this Glock 45 a few months ago, did X300, and extended slide and mag release.

Any tips? Should I bring the beaver tails with me to swap them out while I’m there?

A good internals polish will do wonders.

Just load your mags before you go, bring lots of extra ammo, and punch paper. You could bring the back straps along to test, but on your first trip you might just want to get comfortable with the pistol in general before you start fine tuning the grip.

@JackJoachim I think this is good advice. ^

Having worked at a range a lot of people are quick to want to adjust/upgrade their gear when what is really needed is more trigger time and training. I've never met anyone who is completely immune to this, myself included. In the most extreme cases this is someone who spends an hour at the range and only shoots for 10 minutes because they're tinkering with their gun so much. Unless you're diagnosing an issue or doing very fine tuning that's rarely a productive day at the range.

If you haven't had any formal training watch several YouTube videos on different grips and trigger techniques and proper sight alignment. Try out different grips and trigger techniques to see what feels most natural for you and focus on repetition and getting proficient with that technique. There are a couple of grips that work really well for 99% of people but everyone is different.

Dry fire practice before you go get the basics of pulling the trigger straight back so front sight doesn’t move.
Most of all just have fun don’t beat yourself up if you’re not where you want to be pistols are hard to be proficient at.

Don't worry about fiddling with the grip on your first trip. Just enjoy the gun, get a feel for how works/fires/fits in your hand. You may want to try several different stances, to see which works best for you. Most importantly, have fun.

Now, once you get home -

Take the gun apart (4 pieces - frame, slide, barrel, recoil spring.) Clean everything - clean the barrel from the breech (chamber) end.
    Oil lightly.

When you have some time, try the different grip spacers. See which one fits your hand the best (hold the gun in your shooting stance.)

A mentioned, you may also want to do some dry firing - practice without ammo. This helps your stance, holding the gun steady, sight alignment, and trigger squeeze. We can have a more thorough discussion here if you have any questions. I'm sure there are some videos out there as well.

I have a G45 as well - it's a fun gun to shoot. I've upgraded my sights, and picked up additional magazines.

One other thing - you may want to consider getting a .22LR gun, such as a G44. .22 ammo is cheaper than 9MM, and has less recoil and noise. Shooting a .22 will really let you concentrate on your gun handling skills - you and the gun. The skills are (more or less) the same for all guns, but easier to master/refine while shooting a milder cartridge. And, if you get a G44, the controls are identical to your G45. The grip is the same, with the exception of being a little shorter.

    Any questions, just ask.

    Thanks for the advice!
I have been dry firing a good bit since I picked it up. I have messed with the beavertails to see if I liked any of them.

I will let y'all know how it goes. I have only shot shotgun/clays before this, but I am very excited!

Welcome down a expensive journey of pistols finding your perfect match. Don’t get caught up in modding it none of that will make you a better marksman cept a red dot…or a quality 1911.

Installed an apex trigger group, still not as good as the stock triggers on my other m&ps.

It would seem no one in the whole state can, thus the reason I own this gun.

Interesting you think so, because I’ve had the opposite experience and always found M&P triggers to be rather gritty.

Swapped to an Apex trigger on my FNS9 which had a similar style hinged trigger as the M&P and it’s been great for me. Each to their own I guess.
