Picked it up yesterday, no nasty surprise added charges, lots of papers to sign, drove off with a full tank, very pleasant dealership, we bought a '10 RAV4 there new, would recommend them (Inver Grove Toyota).
Now to get my kids to show me how everything works.
The packet of manuals is about 2" thick.
Am considering which "protection package" to buy, any recommendations ?

The nice thing about these Tacomas is they still include hard buttons for almost everything, so you just have to look at the buttons to figure out what they do. You don't have to try to figure out where everything is under a big slab of a screen.

Which protection package do you mean? An underbody, rust-proof type protection? Or extended warranty?

If you mean underbody, I'd look into either a Krown type undercoating or Fluid Film/Woolwax type. (Stay far away from rubberized undercoatings!) In the land of salt and snow known as MN, I think a good undercoating is pretty important to keep the rust at bay. There's a local place that does it if you don't DIY that kind of thing.

If you are looking for an extended warranty, the only one I'd recommend is an official Toyota one. The third party ones can be a PITA to deal with. There's a place on the east coast I think that is a Toyota dealer but they'll sell the OEM extended warranty to anyone, and have really good prices that are just over invoice. Much cheaper than other dealers who tend to only sell the warranties at MSRP.

Don't have time to dig links out, but for both of the above look at my build thread in my signature and there should be links to both in my OP if you are interested.

    This is their "menu".
    What do you think ?
I am thinking all or nothing but curious what others think.
I might also go for mud flaps, the other add-on equipment can wait until I have a chance to live with it for a while.
As for extended warranty, never been a fan.
Besides, nothing will ever go wrong with a Toyota anyway, right ?

Huge long shot here. I'm looking for some rear seat fabric to replace mine. I suppose you have plans for the rear seats or are just storing them for the future? I'd be willing to buy the fabric if it's in decent enough condition. Totally understandable if you are keeping it, just thought I'd check.

I personally don't think any of that stuff is worth it.... and some of it sounds like snake oil...

Yeah, I'm with @doublethebass on this one, I'd pass on everything. I have a place Woolwax twice a year (spring and fall) and plan to continue to do that.

I don't understand what an electromagnetic pulse is going to do to stop oxygen reacting with iron. I'd like to see the testing behind it but I bet there isn't any. How are they creating the pulse? What about pacemakers and other devices? Makes no sense to me.

I don't think I'll keep it once we move. The truck will always be the adventure rig and I don't foresee putting them back in. I think I have only ever had people in the back seat like twice so its in nice shape. I would sell you the whole seat and backs if you need them.

Regarding the "menu", I will likely get everything but the mad scientist electromagnetic corrosion protection or the coverage against rips and tears.
This is my pre-retirement present to myself, it will be with me a long time.
Probably will even have the 3M film extended to completely cover the hood and front fenders.
My vehicles get pampered, and the one thing I cannot tolerate is rust.
I have driven a lot of American made for 50 years and every last one of them sucked at rust.
    Won't have it any more.
Last two cars have been my '03 Camry 4 banger recently put down after 190000 miles from head gasket (no rust), and my '10 RAV4 V6 (no rust) that I will be selling now.

I have looked into just buying the whole rear seat from a junkyard. There's a couple I think in Lakeville and Stillwater that have Taco parts pretty often. The problem with that is then I have to store and extra entire back seat somewhere. What do you think you'd want for your seat and how far away from Bemidji are you? Condition-wise, I'm mostly concerned about the bottom seat on the passenger side, is yours in great shape there?

I'd suggest seeing what undercoating they do from that dealer menu. Most do some sort of rubberized undercoating and that can cause issues. Watch that video to see why. Just want you to be informed and eyes open before going in!

If you are going to get it undercoated, and I definitely recommend that in MN and especially if you plan to keep it for a long time, then Fluid Film/Woolwax is the way to go. Here's a place in Little Canada that does Woolwax coatings if you don't want to DIY.

    Good luck either way!

This is what they sent me about the undercoating.
I asked if they do this in-house or farm it out.
They haven't got back to me yet.

I can take some pictures of it when I get home tonight or this weekend. You are saying you need the 60% seat right? I'm in the north suburbs. So like 3.5 hours away. I go up north a bit but usually north shore side but could meet somewhere.

OK cool, no big hurry. Yes I need the 60% seat. If I could meet you somewhere sometime that would be fine too.

From what I can tell, that looks oil-based not rubber-based, which is good, but the fact that it's a one-time application is unusual for an oil-based rust coating. Krown and Fluid Film and Woolwax all need to be redone every year. Sounds like the place in Little Canada would be a better option

Just an FYI, they got back to me and install all their menu items in-house.
