    Hello,

    I have a 2021 OR V6 Auto with 2300 miles on it.

I have noticed a transmission lag that's only noticeable when driving down an incline and going from braking to accelerating. There is a lag and the RPMs will rise and then it will slam into accelerating. That's the best way I can describe it.

Is this normal? I feel like my 4runner did this slightly, but not to this degree.

    Thanks,
    Zach

    Yup, perfectly normal.

The KD max tune will help fix most of that.

Thank you. Will that tune void the warranty?

That sounds like the behavior of every automatic transmission I have driven since the 1980s. What are you comparing the behavior to besides the 4Runner?

My 2nd gen 07 Tacoma and my 04 or 09 ranger never had these issues.

FWIW......it might be time well spent to verify the fluid level is correct.

I just had the fluids checked and everything is filled properly. Still having this issue, It happens on flat ground too in lower gears. I'm not sure if it's an issue or just how these transmissions are...

Sounds like the truck is detecting it needs more power when going uphill and downshifting in order to get into the meat of the powerband to accomplish this. Perfectly normal and expected behavior for a modern automatic transmission.

It's not shifting, It's just lagging between coasting and acceleration.

Gen 3, 3.5L motor problems lol. You will have to get it tuned then as the above poster has mentioned. 4.0L > 3.5L

I’m just wondering if this is normal for this transmission or I should take it to the dealership.

Don't mind him, he's just another Gen 2er front inadequate again today.
The 3rd gen auto does constantly get to get in to a higher gear for emissions and efficiency (as does any new vehicle, they're all in the same rat-race). I'm not sure exactly what you're going, but it could be the trans downshifting on hills to engine brake (which it does) and then needing to go up several gears to resume acceleration. If you think it's not normal, definitely take it to the dealer. Sorry these are just as hard to diagnose over the net, as they are to describe :)

It's not shifting, It's coasting to acceleration (same gear). Kind of feels like it's slipping like a manual.

The auto tranny tune sucks and I'm guessing this some of what you're experiencing. It does sound like there may be something else going on though.

My old 2019 had similar issues and they were resolved by topping off the trans fluid and eventually getting a tune.

lol no, people complaining about lack of low down torque/acceleration as well as lack of throttle response on a 3rd gen auto is normal and the tune is considered a "must" for auto owners. He stated it wasn't downshifting, it just has a hesitant throttle response by design as we have seen 100's of threads about this with the 3.5 Motor. Don't be upset you share a motor with a mini-van and it's actually more responsive in the mini-van (Sienna)

Can you point to the spot on the doll where the 3.5 touched you?

Its didn't do it on my 2020 sr5, but was one of the beefs on a buddies 2019 trd. Dealer told him it was common to see it when the truck hasn't had time to warm up. I told him thats a load of bs, then why doesn't my truck do it.
