I think I am going to try the oem LEDs.

Driving in the rain at night I get so much glare from other cars I can barely see the edges of the road.

Maybe ill try these. “As seen on tv”

Actually, yes. Not those specific glasses. But other yellow polarized driving glasses. Which do help with blue LED light glare at night.

For optimal poor weather performance I’d opt for one of the selective yellow options over the 6000k color temp, even with the glasses.

Is that an option in the OEM housing? I like the idea of “switchback” but was not sure if you can swap bulbs.

No. Although the new Diode Dynamics Elite series have the OEM appearance with a selective yellow light option.

Unfortunately, selective yellow is only available in lights that replace your fog lights below the bumper. If you add a set of Diode Dynamics SS3 fogs in selective yellow to your OEM LED headlights, you'll be quite happy with the results.

Here's something interesting that I just received... Looking at the Tacoma fitment specs it looks like the claimed numbers come in between the Pro and Max SS3s, for reference. The dual-color ones don't have any specs that I could dig up. This isn't everything, but all of the stuff that I thought might be relevant here.

 Was more in line with my response though. I saw the dollar amount and went WHEW! Expected to be absolutely floored by the numbers, but... I'm not. I can admit that I do like the look of the Rigid ones though from the aesthetic perspective!

Hmm. The one I tested were certainly not up to par with the Pros in the single color output. However there may have been some alterations to the design afterward based on feedback. The dual color units I have test spot on par for intensity with the OEM Tacoma TRD Pro Rigid fogs for white, and typical losses for yellow filtration. Here I have it setup running both, which gives a warm white color. Unlike the previous 360s that had a dual top and bottom pattern with a separation between, the optics are now designed to overlap the pattern to just one band. I'll check to see what (if any) updates were done since the units I received.

Not in SAE fog patterns. But new KC mounts for the fog location.

That has been in progress for a while, with very high performance level targets. It will be interesting to see what the production units perform like.

I'm no longer a Toyota owner, but I just wanted to come back and say thanks for all the info in this thread. Without the knowledge shared by the OP and others god only knows what lights I'd have gone with instead of these SS3 Sports.

Some Jeep headlight info here comparing JW Speaker heated headlights vs OEM LED, post #457 and post #464. I didn't try any of the halogen units.

Yeah, definitely don't plan on purchasing more Jeep products after that.

not sure if this has been asked before but will there be CrossLink system for SS3s? It'd work out so well with my low pro light bar. :D

I think Paul at @Diode Dynamics has mentioned that they are exploring that idea but it will definitely merit new castings for the SS3 chassis to be able to use those nifty crosslink pieces.

@t2c for DD SS3 sport and pro in a fog pattern you have these choices:

Yellow SAE/DOT Fog -- These use 4000k emitters
White SAE/DOT Fog -- These use 6000k emitters

Then you have one remaining option for Amber Backlight yes/no.

For MAX you have similar choices on color but while the pro and sport use different emitters, the MAX only comes in one emitter hence the only difference for the MAX lies with the optics.

Crash recommends Yellow and calls the color "selective yellow" as it's the official terminology for the color as opposed to amber.
Crash's second choice is buying Yellow and installing clear optics which yields a 4k color, warmer than 6000k. So the purchase preference is clear (buy yellow) but the optics can be swapped if you decide later on that you prefer a whiter fog light.

The MAX only comes in one emitter which is good because it's pricey but bad because 4k emitters would be preferable. The optics for the max apply more filtering to get the emitters to produce a selective yellow color.

The backlight is fun but costs more, and requires some way to trigger it. I make some parts to help with that but if you'd rather not spend the money on a backlight don't feel compelled to do so. Some use it as an aux marker light and it can be done as a little flashy for turn signals but it's not a significant amount of output so shouldn't really be used for anything important.

I would be in for these if they become a thing. The SS5 being larger and square is what has kept me from getting cross links so far
